Excerpt from Twenty-Second Annual Report of the Bureau of Animal Industry for the Year 1905 Sm: I have the honor to transmit herewith the Twenty-second Annual Report of the Bureau of Animal Industry for the year 1905, and recommend that it be forwarded to the Public Printer for print ing, as provided by section 73 of the act of Congress approved J an uary 12, 1895. In September, 1905, Dr. D. E. Salmon, who had served as Chief of the Bureau for more than twenty-one years, beginning with its organization in 1884, resigned that position, and his resignation was accepted by you to take effect November 1, 1905. The undersigned has been in charge of the Bureau work from the time 'of Doctor Salmon's retirement. The report of the Chief of the Bureau for the fiscal year ended J une 30, 1905, is therefore by Doctor Salmon, as that period came entirely within his administration. Excerpt from Twenty-Fourth Annual Report of the Bureau of Animal Industry: For the Year 1907 The fiscal year ended June 30, 1907, witnessed an unprecedented increase in the work of this Bureau. This was due mainly to the extension of the meat inspection under the new law of June 30, 1906, and partly to the work of eradicating the southern cattle tick, which was begun in the summer of 1906. The large and rapid growth dur ing the year is well shown by the increase in the number of employees and in the expenditures for the maintenance Of the work. Both Of these items were more than doubled, the Bureau force having grown from on July 1, 1906, to a year later, while the expandi tures rose from for the fiscal year 1906 to for the fiscal year 1907.
