Book Description
Collected here is a series of articles Smith wrote for "The Daily Telegraph" during the period when the newspapers were publishing daily reports of the progress of the work in Tutankhamen's tomb which discuss the wider significance of the startling discoveries. He attempts to interpret deeper meaning of those Egyptian beliefs which found such brilliant expression in the luxuriously rich equipment of Tutankhamen's tomb brought to light (Nov. 1922) by the British archeologists, Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter while exploring the Valley of the Tombs of the Kings.

Book Description
Excerpt from Tutankhamen and the Discovery of His Tomb by the Late Earl of Carnarvon and Mr. Howard Carter I have been urged to collect these articles into the more convenient form of this little book. AS they were merely comments on the descriptions of the actual tomb and its contents the separate issue of these topical and ephemeral notes seemed at first to lack any justification, but I have received so many requests for information and guidance that I thought it might serve some useful purpose to redraft my articles and give such biblio graphical references as would help the general reader to understand the results that have SO far been attained and to appreciate the value of the more important discoveries that next season's work will certainly reveal. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. NEW PRINT WITH PROFESSIONAL TYPE-SET IN CONTRAST TO SCANNED PRINTS OFFERED BY OTHERS Tutankhamen: And The Discovery Of His Tomb By The Late Earl Of Carnarvon And Mr Howard Carter This book is a result of an effort made by us towards making a contribution to the preservation and repair of original classic literature. In an attempt to preserve, improve and recreate the original content, we have worked towards: 1. Type-setting & Reformatting: The complete work has been re-designed via professional layout, formatting and type-setting tools to re-create the same edition with rich typography, graphics, high quality images, and table elements, giving our readers the feel of holding a 'fresh and newly' reprinted and/or revised edition, as opposed to other scanned & printed (Optical Character Recognition - OCR) reproductions. 2. Correction of imperfections: As the work was re-created from the scratch, therefore, it was vetted to rectify certain conventional norms with regard to typographical mistakes, hyphenations, punctuations, blurred images, missing content/pages, and/or other related subject matters, upon our consideration. Every attempt was made to rectify the imperfections related to omitted constructs in the original edition via other references. However, a few of such imperfections which could not be rectified due to intentional\unintentional omission of content in the original edition, were inherited and preserved from the original work to maintain the authenticity and construct, relevant to the work. We believe that this work holds historical, cultural and/or intellectual importance in the literary works community, therefore despite the oddities, we accounted the work for print as a part of our continuing effort towards preservation of literary work and our contribution towards the development of the society as a whole, driven by our beliefs. We are grateful to our readers for putting their faith in us and accepting our imperfections with regard to preservation of the historical content. HAPPY READING!

Book Description
Sir Grafton Elliot Smith (1871-1937) was an Australian-British anatomist, Egyptologist and proponent of the hyperdiffusionist view of prehistory. An expert on brain anatomy, he was the first to study Egyptian mummies using radiological techniques. He was born in Grafton, NSW and after obtaining a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1895 he received a travelling scholarship and attended St John's College, Cambridge, graduating BA in 1896. Afterwards he catalogued the human brain collection of the British Museum. After gaining an appointment at the Cairo School of Medicine in 1900 he became archaeological advisor to the archaeological survey of Nubia when it was feared plans to construct the Aswan Dam threatened to drown numerous archaeological sites. From 1909-19 he was Professor in anatomy in Manchester and from 1919-37 held the chair of Anatomy at University College, London. He was the leading specialist on the evolution of the brain of his day and many of his ideas on the evolution of the primate brain still form the core of present scholarship. He was the author of a number of books and this work on the discovery of Tutankhamen's Tomb was first published in 1923. Illustrated throughout.

Book Description
Tutankhamun took the throne at eight or nine years of age under the unprecedented viziership of his eventual successor, Ay, to whom he may have been related. He married his half sister Ankhesenamun. During their marriage they lost two daughters, one at 5-6 months of pregnancy and the other shortly after birth at full-term. His names--Tutankhaten and Tutankhamun--are thought to mean "Living image of Aten" and "Living image of Amun", with Aten replaced by Amun after Akhenaten's death. A small number of Egyptologists, including Battiscombe Gunn, believe the translation may be incorrect and closer to "The-life-of-Aten-is-pleasing" or, as Professor Gerhard Fecht believes, reads as "One-perfect-of-life-is-Aten". Tutankhamun restored the Ancient Egyptian religion after its dissolution by his father, enriched and endowed the priestly orders of two important cults and began restoring old monuments damaged during the previous Amarna period. He moved his father's remains to the Valley of the Kings as well as moving the capital from Akhetaten to Thebes. Tutankhamun was physically disabled with a deformity of his left foot along with bone necrosis that required the use of a cane, several of which were found in his tomb. He had other health issues including scoliosis and had contracted several strains of malaria.
