The Prediction of Turbulent Boundary-layer Separation Influenced by Blowing

The Prediction of Turbulent Boundary-layer Separation Influenced by Blowing PDF Author: Arnold Polak
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Boundary layer control
Languages : en
Pages : 58

Book Description
The report presents an analysis predicting separation of a turbulent boundary layer over a cone-flare configuration with gas injected into the boundary layer ahead of separation point. Separation location and separation lengths are compared with experimental data obtained at Mach number of 6 and a range of Reynolds numbers. At the highest Reynolds numbers the extent of separation decreases with increasing Reynolds number. When compared to separation over cylinder-flare body it is found that the extent of separation is lower for the cone-flare configuration. (Author).

A Compilation of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layer Experimental Data

A Compilation of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary Layer Experimental Data PDF Author: Lawrence W. Carr
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Turbulence
Languages : en
Pages : 62

Book Description
A comprehensive literature search was conducted and those experiments related to unsteady turbulent boundary-layer behavior were cataloged. In addition, an international survey of industrial, university, and government research laboratories was made, in which new and ongoing experimental programs associated with unsteady turbulent boundary-layer research were identified. Pertinent references were reviewed and classified based on the technical emphasis of the various experiments that include instantaneous or ensemble-averaged profiles of boundary-layer variables are stressed. Detailed reviews that include descriptions of the experimental apparatus, flow conditions, summaries of acquired data, and significant conclusions are made. The measurements made in these experiments that exist in digital form have been stored on magnetic tape, and instructions are presented for accessing these data sets for further analysis. (Author).

A Review of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary-layer Experiments

A Review of Unsteady Turbulent Boundary-layer Experiments PDF Author:
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 44

Book Description
The essential results of a comprehensive review of existing unsteady turbulent boundary-layer experiments are presented. Different types of unsteady flow facilities are described, and the related unsteady turbulent boundary-layer experiments are cataloged and discussed. The measurements that have been obtained in the various experiments are described, and a complete list of experimental results is presented. All the experiments that measured instantaneous values of velocity, turbulence intensity, or turbulent shear stress are identified, and the availability of digital data is indicated. The results of the experiments are analyzed, and several significant trends are identified. An assessment of the available data is presented, delineating gaps in the existing data, and indicating where new or extended information is needed. Guidelines for future experiments are presented. The Separation of Axially Symmetric Turbulent Boundary Layers. Part Ii. Detailed Measurements in the Boundary Layers on Several Slender Bodies in Incompressible Flow

Book Description
Detailed measurements of turbulent boundary layer velocity profiles and shear stress distributions on three slender bodies of revolution in incompressible flow are presented. Comparison of the results with those found in two-dimensional flows indicates no appreciable influence of lateral curvature on the Law of the Wall or use of H as a shape parameter for the outer region of the velocity profile except where the boundary layer thickness exceeds body radius. Values of wall shear stress determined by the method of Clauser-Coles are in excellent agreement with values measured using a shear stress pitot tube according to the method of Preston, while those predicted by the LudwiegTillmann formula are greater than measured values in the adverse pressure gradient regions of the flows. Disturbing the turbulent layer at transition by blowing through the surface leads to an increase in theta and a reduction in H which delays separation slightly when compared with the undisturbed layer.
