Drawn from the Classics

Drawn from the Classics PDF Author: Stephen E. Tabachnick
Publisher: McFarland
ISBN: 147661976X
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 293

Book Description
The graphic novel is the most exciting literary format to emerge in the past thirty years. Among its more inspired uses has been the superlative adaptation of literary classics. Unlike the comic book abridgments aimed at young readers of an earlier era, today's graphic novel adaptations are created for an adult audience, and capture the subtleties of sophisticated written works. This first ever collection of essays focusing on graphic novel adaptations of various literary classics demonstrates how graphic narrative offers new ways of understanding the classics, including the works of Homer, Poe, Flaubert, Conrad and Kafka, among many others.

Encyclopedia of Romance Fiction

Encyclopedia of Romance Fiction PDF Author: Kristin Ramsdell
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN: 0313054053
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 489

Book Description
As the first encyclopedia solely devoted to the popular romance fiction genre, this resource provides a wealth of information on all aspects of the subject. Romance fiction accounts for a large share of book sales each year, and contrary to popular belief, not all of its readers are women: roughly 16 percent are men. This enormously popular genre continues to captivate people reading for pleasure, and it also commands a growing amount of academic interest. Included are alphabetically arranged reference entries on significant authors along with works, themes, and other topics. The articles are written by scholars, librarians, and industry professionals with a deep knowledge of the genre and so provide a thorough understanding of the subject. An index provides easy access to information within the entries, and bibliographies at the end of each entry, a general bibliography, and a suggested romance reading list allow for further study of the genre.

The V-Files

The V-Files PDF Author: Nelson Onit Vazqueztell
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1403303967
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 238

Book Description
In becoming a poet, Ive noticed that I now pay strict attention to every detail around me. I used to take my surroundings for granted, and I didnt always pay close attention to everything there was to notice. Welcome! Welcome once again to another book of poetry and to my wild, creative and imaginative mind. In this second poetry book I hope you find the stories much more interesting, the comedy much more refreshing and that the romance takes you to a few nostalgic moments of your own. You may notice that this second collection of my work is a little different to my first, TRUTH, COMEDY & POETRY for ALL, in that there are not as many love poems. This time around, I wanted to express a little more of my other sides instead of just the romance. So I decided, sure, there is still going to be plenty of heart felt tales in here, but there will be more emphasis on the serious and comic aspects this time around. I also made most of the poems much, much shorter. I wanted to make sure there wouldnt be constant thoughts of, "Gee, this poem is a little too long and therefore I am uncontrollably daydreaming due to the length of this study-hall of a poem." Then again, according to my test group, it seems that the long stories here are pretty good. But you can be the judge of that. The reason I wrote my first book was to get others into reading poetry and writing some of their own. However, the reason I wanted to write this second book was because I wanted to know that if I were to die tomorrow, I would leave something behind that could still make people smile or think. I wanted to create something that would last and be appreciated for generations to come. I wanted to leave behind a mark of my existence. And so here is my book. If you havent read my first book, well, I want to start over with a "Hello." I am a fairly new poet and writer who will either make you think, laugh or say, "My God this romantic material is going to come in handy for the next time I meet someone I like." Whatever the scenario, I just want to remind everyone that we all have three sides to us. We may not show all of them every day, but within all of us exists a serious side, a humorous side and a romantic side. In both of my poetry books I show my different characters, and then some. Especially, in THE V-FILES.

Cartoonists, Works, and Characters in the United States through 2005

Cartoonists, Works, and Characters in the United States through 2005 PDF Author: John Lent
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing USA
ISBN: 0313083924
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 569

Book Description
This penultimate work in John Lent's series of bibliographies on comic art gathers together an astounding array of citations on American cartoonists and their work. Author John Lent has used all manner of methods to gather the citations, searching library and online databases, contacting scholars and other professionals, attending conferences and festivals, and scanning hundreds of periodicals. He has gone to great length to categorize the citations in an easy-to-use, scholarly fashion, and in the process, has helped to establish the field of comic art as an important part of social science and humanities research. The ten volumes in this series, covering all regions of the world, constitute the largest printed bibliography of comic art in the world, and serve as the beacon guiding the burgeoning fields of animation, comics, and cartooning. They are the definitive works on comic art research, and are exhaustive in their inclusiveness, covering all types of publications (academic, trade, popular, fan, etc.) from all over the world. Also included in these books are citations to systematically-researched academic exercises, as well as more ephemeral sources such as fanzines, press articles, and fugitive materials (conference papers, unpublished documents, etc.), attesting to Lent's belief that all pieces of information are vital in a new field of study such as comic art.
