Trip Attraction Rates Study: Main report

Trip Attraction Rates Study: Main report PDF Author: Phillip S. Shapiro
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Traffic estimation
Languages : en
Pages : 104

Book Description
The objectives of this study, conducted for the Arizona Department of Transportation, were to 1) efficiently collect data on current non-residential trip attraction rates, non-home-based (NHB) trips and NHB trip length (duration), 2) analyze these data in order to develop trip attraction rates by major land use type and development category and make recommendations for the revision of trip attraction relationships used by the Tucson area trip generation models, and 3) develop a new NHB trip length distribution for comparison with the current simulation and update the associated model friction factors, if necessary. The study was conducted in two parts, Spring, 1986 and Fall, 1986, and encompassed 45 different sites. The sites represented 6 of the 12 employment categories PAGPTD, the local MPO, uses in its trip generation model. Overall, more NHB travel was observed than was predicted in the model. Community shopping centers (CSC) and other retail (OR) had large increases in their NHB trip rates. Another result was, for some development categories, the observed trip rates were the same as those used in the modelling process. As the other non-retail (ONR) category is especially sensitive to shifts in the economic makeup of the community, it was suggested that the category be further disaggregated. Another possible change to the model system is the elimination of the CBD as a land use/development category. The results are mixed in attempting to balance the trip production and trip attraction generation models. Home-based other (HBO) trips move in the correct direction (towards productions), while home-based work (HBW), home-based shopping (HBS) and NHB do not.

Statewide Travel Forecasting Models

Statewide Travel Forecasting Models PDF Author: Alan J. Horowitz
Publisher: Transportation Research Board
ISBN: 0309097657
Category : Traffic estimation
Languages : en
Pages : 125

Book Description
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 358: Statewide Travel Forecasting Models examines statewide travel forecasting models designed to address planning needs and provide forecasts for statewide transportation, including passenger vehicle and freight movements. The report explores the types and purposes of models being used, integration of state and urban models, data requirements, computer needs, resources (including time, funding, training, and staff), limitations, and overall benefits. The report includes five case studies, two that focus on passenger components, two on freight components, and one on both passenger and freight.
