Book Description
Excerpt from Trinity Alumni Register, Vol. 8: April, 1922 President John Franklin Crowell and those who worked with him in effecting the reorganization of Trinity College and its removal to Durham accomplished many things essential in preparing the way for building a college suitable for training men to take leadership in the new time then dawning in the South. However, had not Dr. Crowell's mantle fallen on com petent shoulders all that had been done before might soon have gone for naught. Perhaps no time in the history of Trinity College was more critical than this hour when, having said fare well to one president, it made ready to welcome another. Neither the retiring president nor his successor, men in some respects so unlike, could probably have made his work at Trinity count as largely as. He did without the other. It is not easy to assort the fruits of their combined endeavor and to allot credit in every case Where it is due. There is probably no better way to do this than to describe briefly the conditions that faced President Kilgo when he came to Durham to assume his duties in the' summer of 1894. Book Description
Excerpt from Trinity Alumni Register, Vol. 6: April, 1920 As the time drew near, such preparations! Such going back wards and forwards to High Point! Such a display of hats and new dresses! For if only one dress could be bought in the year, and only one hat could be obtained, that dress and that hat 'had to be ready at hand by the second Thursday in June. I remember very distinctly of hearing the older people talking of the brass band (a band was not an everyday affair then), and I pictured some kind of rolling hoops. I thought it must be something to roll and play with. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
