Materials Science of Thin Films

Materials Science of Thin Films PDF Author: Milton Ohring
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0125249756
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 817

Book Description
This is the first book that can be considered a textbook on thin film science, complete with exercises at the end of each chapter. Ohring has contributed many highly regarded reference books to the AP list, including Reliability and Failure of Electronic Materials and the Engineering Science of Thin Films. The knowledge base is intended for science and engineering students in advanced undergraduate or first-year graduate level courses on thin films and scientists and engineers who are entering or require an overview of the field. Since 1992, when the book was first published, the field of thin films has expanded tremendously, especially with regard to technological applications. The second edition will bring the book up-to-date with regard to these advances. Most chapters have been greatly updated, and several new chapters have been added.

Thin Films: Preparation, Characterization, Applications

Thin Films: Preparation, Characterization, Applications PDF Author: Manuel P. Soriaga
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461507758
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 362

Book Description
This book is about thin films; what they are, how they are prepared, how they are characterized, and what they are used for. The contents of this book not only showcase the diversity of thin films, but also reveals the commonality among the work performed in a variety of areas. The chapters in this volume are based on invited papers presented by prominent researchers in the field at a Symposium on "Thin Films: Preparation, Characterization, Applications" at the 221st National Meeting of the American Chemical Society held in San Diego, California. The coverage of the symposium was extensive; topics ranged from highly-ordered metal adlayers on well-defined electrode surfaces to bio-organic films on non-metallic nanoparticles. An objective of this book is for the readers to be able to draw from the experience and results of others in order to improve and expand the understanding of the science and technology of their own thin films systems.

Two-Dimensional Systems, Heterostructures, and Superlattices

Two-Dimensional Systems, Heterostructures, and Superlattices PDF Author: G. Bauer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642823114
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 300

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of the International Winter School on "Heterostructures and Two-Dimensional Electronic Systems in Semiconductors". The school took place in Mauterndorf, Austria, from February 26 - March 2, 1984, and was the third one in a series of winter schools on "New Develop ments in Solid-State Physics", organized by the Austrian Physical Society, Solid State Physics Division. The school was attended by about 150 scientists from 12 countries, including the United States of America, Japan and Poland. Most of the research groups of Western Europe working in this field participated and demonstrated the still increasing interest in the topics. These topics cover the wide area ranging from fundamental phenomena in solid-state physics, like the quantum Hall effect, to new semiconductor devices, all based on two-dimensional elec tronic systems. We hope that the spirit of this school, the combination of basic and applied physics (including skiing) will stimulate further progress in this field of research. This conference was sponsored by the Austrian Physical Society, Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research, European Research Office of the US Army, European Office of Aerospace Research and Development, Federal Province of Salzburg, and Osterreichische Forschungsgemeinschaft Further financial support came from the following companies: Balzers, IBM Austria, Messer-Griesheim, Oxford Instruments, Klaus Schafer & Co., Siemens Osterreich and Varian.

An Introduction to Physics and Technology of Thin Films

An Introduction to Physics and Technology of Thin Films PDF Author: Alfred Wagendristel
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9789810216160
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 170

Book Description
Based on lecture notes that have been used successfully by the authors for the past 10 years, with revisions made each year, this book is aimed at graduate students as well as professionals and researchers involved in thin film physics and technology. It is concise, comprehensive and well organized. The first part of the book introduces the concept, describes the various deposition procedures and illustrates PVD methods, evaporation and sputtering. The basic physical processes of film formation are then analyzed and formulated, including methods for monitoring and measuring film thickness. This book also shows how the subject matter connects with, relates and applies to other fields. In the second part of the book, 3 special topics ? ferromagnetic films, diffusion in thin films and mechanical properties of thin films ? are discussed.Given its wide scope, this book is relevant not just to those involved in materials science but also to engineers as well.
