Electron Spin Resonance

Electron Spin Resonance PDF Author: John Wertz
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400940750
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 510

Book Description
In the twenty-five years since its discovery by Zavoiskii, the technique of electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy has provided detailed struc tural information on a variety of paramagnetic organic and inorganic sys tems. It is doubtful that even much later than 1945 any chemist would have been so bold as to predict the great diversity of systems which have proved amenable to study by ESR spectroscopy. In this book we have attempted to provide numerous examples of actual ESR spectra to illus trate the wide scope of application. No attempt has been made to present a comprehensive coverage of the literature in any field, but references to reviews and key articles are given throughout the book. This introductory textbook had its origin in lecture notes prepared for an American Chemical Society short course on electron spin resonance. The present version is the result of extensive revision and expansion of the original notes. Experience with such courses has convinced us that there are large numbers of chemists, physicists, and biologists who have a strong interest in electron spin resonance. The mathematical training of most of the short-course students is limited to calculus. Their contact with theories of molecular structure is largely limited to that obtained in an elementary physical chemistry course. It is to an audience of such background that this book is directed.

Scanning Probe Microscopy

Scanning Probe Microscopy PDF Author: Ernst Meyer
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030370895
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 330

Book Description
Written by three leading experts in the field, this textbook describes and explains all aspects of the scanning probe microscopy. Emphasis is placed on the experimental design and procedures required to optimize the performance of the various methods. Scanning Probe Microscopy covers not only the physical principles behind scanning probe microscopy but also questions of instrumental designs, basic features of the different imaging modes, and recurring artifacts. The intention is to provide a general textbook for all types of classes that address scanning probe microscopy. Third year undergraduates and beyond should be able to use it for self-study or as textbook to accompany a course on probe microscopy. Furthermore, it will be valuable as reference book in any scanning probe microscopy laboratory. Novel applications and the latest important results are also presented, and the book closes with a look at the future prospects of scanning probe microscopy, also discussing related techniques in nanoscience. Ideally suited as an introduction for graduate students, the book will also serve as a valuable reference for practising researchers developing and using scanning probe techniques.

Scanning Probe Microscopy and Spectroscopy

Scanning Probe Microscopy and Spectroscopy PDF Author: Dawn Bonnell
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 047124824X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 520

Book Description
A practical introduction to basic theory and contemporary applications across a wide range of research disciplines Over the past two decades, scanning probe microscopies and spectroscopies have gained acceptance as indispensable characterization tools for an array of disciplines. This book provides novices and experienced researchers with a highly accessible treatment of basic theory, alongside detailed examples of current applications of both scanning tunneling and force microscopies and spectroscopies. Like its popular predecessor, Scanning Probe Microscopy and Spectroscopy, Second Edition features contributions from distinguished scientists working in a wide range of specialties at university, commercial, and government research labs around the world. Chapters have been edited for clarity, conciseness, and uniformity of presentation to provide professionals with a concise working reference to scanning probe microscopic and spectroscopic principles, techniques, and practices. This Second Edition has been substantially revised and expanded to reflect important advances and new applications. In addition to numerous examples, the Second Edition features expanded coverage of electrostatic and magnetic force microscopies, near-field optical microscopies, and new applications of buried interfaces in nanomechanics, electrochemistry, and biology. Scanning Probe Microscopy and Spectroscopy, Second Edition is an indispensable working resource for surface scientists, microscopists, and spectroscopists in materials science, chemistry, engineering, biochemistry, physics, and the life sciences. It is also an unparalleled reference text for advanced undergraduates and graduate students in those fields.

Applied Mineralogy in the Mining Industry

Applied Mineralogy in the Mining Industry PDF Author: W. Petruk
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080527337
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 287

Book Description
Techniques of performing applied mineralogy investigations, and applications and capabilities of recently developed instruments for measuring mineral properties are explored in this book intended for practicing applied mineralogists, students in mineralogy and metallurgy, and mineral processing engineers. The benefits of applied mineralogy are presented by using in-depth applied mineralogy studies on base metal ores, gold ores, porphyry copper ores, iron ores and industrial minerals as examples. The chapter on base metal ores includes a discussion on the effects of liberation, particle sizes and surfaces coatings of Pb, Cu, Fe, Ca and So4- on the recoveries of sphalerite, galena and chalcopyrite. The chapter on gold discusses various methods of determining the quantities of gold in different minerals, including 'invisible' gold in pyrite and arsenopyrite, so that a balance of the distribution of gold among the minerals can be calculated. This book also discusses the roles of pyrite, oxygen, moisture and bacterial (thiobacillus ferrooxidans) on reactions that produce acidic drainage from tailings piles, and summarizes currently used and proposed methods of remediation of acidic drainage.
