Transcription Factors CREB and NF-KB

Transcription Factors CREB and NF-KB PDF Author: Benedict C. Albensi
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781608054183
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 144

Book Description
The main theme of this book is to critically survey the role of two recognized protein molecules (i.e., transcription factors) in processes of human memory. In addition, authors provided recent data from their own labs and provided a perspective relevant to specific neurological diseases and potential drug targets. Historically, the transcription factor cAMP response element-binding (CREB) has been the most well documented transcription factor shown to play a role in memory. CREB has several functions, but its most notable function has to do with the formation of long-term memories. More recently, other transcription factors, such as C/EBP, Egr protein, AP-1, and NF-κB have been implicated in memory as well. Of these, scientific literature on NF-κB's theorized role in synaptic plasticity and memory is growing rapidly. Interestingly, in some recent studies CREB and NF-κB have also been shown to interact with each other where both contribute in a cooperative fashion to the initiation of gene expression.

Handbook of Transcription Factor NF-kappaB

Handbook of Transcription Factor NF-kappaB PDF Author: Sankar Ghosh
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1420004271
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 246

Book Description
Recent evidence proving the molecular link between unchecked, chronic inflammation and cancer has implicated the transcription factor NF-kB as a key factor in both inhibiting apoptosis and promoting cell proliferation. Since its initial identification 20 years ago as a simple regulating factor in one small part of the immune response, NF-kB is prov

Transcription Factors in the Nervous System

Transcription Factors in the Nervous System PDF Author: Gerald Thiel
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527607366
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 505

Book Description
This first book to cover neural development, neuronal survival and function on the genetic level outlines promising approaches for novel therapeutic strategies in fighting neurodegenerative disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. Focusing on transcription factors, the text is clearly divided into three sections devoted to transcriptional control of neural development, brain function and transcriptional dysregulation induced neurological diseases. With a chapter written by Nobel laureate Eric Kandel, this is essential reading for neurobiologists, geneticists, biochemists, cell biologists, neurochemists and molecular biologists.

Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells

Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells PDF Author: Juliusz Ashot Kozak
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 149875273X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 343

Book Description
Calcium Entry Channels in Non-Excitable Cells focuses on methods of investigating the structure and function of non-voltage gated calcium channels. Each chapter presents important discoveries in calcium entry pathways, specifically dealing with the molecular identification of store-operated calcium channels which were reviewed by earlier volumes in the Methods in Signal Transduction series. Crystallographic and pharmacological approaches to the study of calcium channels of epithelial cells are also discussed. Calcium ion is a messenger in most cell types. Whereas voltage gated calcium channels have been studied extensively, the non-voltage gated calcium entry channel genes have only been identified relatively recently. The book will fill this important niche.

Mononuclear Phagocytes in Cell Biology

Mononuclear Phagocytes in Cell Biology PDF Author: Gabriel Lopez-Berestein
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 9780849347061
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 264

Book Description
Mononuclear Phagocytes in Cell Biology provides a state-of-the-art review of the biological, biochemical, and molecular processes involved in macrophage activation. The book focuses on the role of macrophage "signals" in health and disease, which are discussed with particular attention to the physiological role of macrophages in homeostasis. The role played by macrophages in bone metabolism and the role of cytokines in diseases affecting the macrophage (e.g., HIV and leishmaniasis) are covered as well. The book also exploits the potential of macrophage "mimicry" as a therapeutic tool. Mononuclear Phagocytes in Cell Biology is a practical reference for cell biologists, medical microbiologists, molecular biologists, immunologists, hematologists, immunogeneticists, immunopharmacologists, and other basic and clinical researchers interested in macrophage development, biology, and differentiation.
