Book Description
Excerpt from Transactions of the Royal Historical Society, Vol. 15 Two years ago, in a paper read on April 20, 1899, and printed in volume xiii. Of the Transactions of this Society, I traced the early history of the famous regiment of horse raised by Cromwell, the troopers of which are popularly known by the name of the Ironsides, though that name properly belongs not to them alone, but to the cavalry of the Cromwellian army in general. That paper closed with the dissolution of the army of the Eastern Association in April 1645, and with the consequent subdivision of the regiment which Cromwell had raised. I propose now to trace the his tory of the two regiments which sprang out of it. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Description
Excerpt from Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Vol. 15: February 16th, 1922 Relapsing fever and typhus have long been known to be associated with conditions of overcrowding, poverty and lack of personal cleanliness. We now know that these conditions are favourable to the spread of these diseases, because they are most favourable to Pediculus. The increasing rarity of both diseases in Europe in pre-war times is to be attributed to the gradual rise in the standard of living, and the corresponding rise in the standard of personal cleanliness, among the population. When, how ever, we come to consider the epidemiology of these diseases in India, we have to do with an entirely different set of conditions, and the problem is by no means so simple.
