Book Description
A good defense is a prerequisite for modern team handball. The intention is not only to prevent goals but also to actively win the ball and subsequently initiate a fast attack. The offense should permanently be put under pressure and forced to make mistakes. The exercises in this collection initially deal with the individual basics of defense play. Individual and position-specific training marks the starting point for subsequent cooperative defense play and allows for choosing the appropriate defense system. The basics both include exercises on legwork, 1-on-1 defense and covering the pivot in combination with fast adjustment to subsequent actions as well as blocking and anticipating on the wing positions of a proactive defense system. The second part of the collection deals with cooperative small group defense play and focuses on handing over/taking over attacking players along the defense line (width of defense) and on making agreements when defending against the pivot. The third chapter introduces cooperative team defense in 6-0, 5-1, 3-2-1, and 4-2 defense systems along with possible variants. Get inspired by the exercises, develop your own defense concepts, and make use of the individual strengths of your defense players for optimal cooperation.

The Race to Transform

The Race to Transform PDF Author: Ashwin Desai
Publisher: HSRC Publishers
ISBN:
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 292

Book Description
The Race to Transform provides a challenging exploration of how sport reflects matters such as inequality, racial transformation and the making (or otherwise) of a common South African destiny. To date, much sports writing in South Africa has been celebratory, paying attention to 'big' moments like the winning of the Rugby World Cups, and hosting the Soccer World Cup. With the lens focused on national teams, the impact of South Africa's transition on township sport has received less attention. This book provides a view on the relationship between elite and grassroots sport in the context of growing economic disparities and the emergence of an influential black middle and super-rich class. The contributors, a mix of activist intellectuals and those directly involved in the game, outline an agenda for both theory and practice in the ongoing debate about sport and transformation in South Africa. Every sports lover who senses the power of politics and economics over his or her beloved game should read this book. Written in a style that is accessible and interesting, it is essential reading for administrators, social scientists and people with an interest in social change.

Clean Coal Engineering Technology

Clean Coal Engineering Technology PDF Author: Bruce G. Miller
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080961169
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 697

Book Description
Concern over the effects of airborne pollution, green house gases, and the impact of global warming has become a worldwide issue that transcends international boundaries, politics, and social responsibility. The 2nd Edition of Coal Energy Systems: Clean Coal Technology describes a new generation of energy processes that sharply reduce air emissions and other pollutants from coal-burning power plants. Coal is the dirtiest of all fossil fuels. When burned, it produces emissions that contribute to global warming, create acid rain, and pollute water. With all of the interest and research surrounding nuclear energy, hydropower, and biofuels, many think that coal is finally on its way out. However, coal generates half of the electricity in the United States and throughout the world today. It will likely continue to do so as long as it's cheap and plentiful [Source: Energy Information Administration]. Coal provides stability in price and availability, will continue to be a major source of electricity generation, will be the major source of hydrogen for the coming hydrogen economy, and has the potential to become an important source of liquid fuels. Conservation and renewable/sustainable energy are important in the overall energy picture, but will play a lesser role in helping us satisfy our energy demands today. Dramatically updated to meet the needs of an ever changing energy market, Coal Energy Systems, 2nd Edition is a single source covering policy and the engineering involved in implementing that policy. The book addresses many coal-related subjects of interest ranging from the chemistry of coal and the future engineering anatomy of a coal fired plant to the cutting edge clean coal technologies being researched and utilized today. A 50% update over the first edition, this new book contains new chapters on processes such as CO2 capture and sequestration, Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) systems, Pulverized-Coal Power Plants and Carbon Emission Trading. Existing materials on worldwide coal distribution and quantities, technical and policy issues regarding the use of coal, technologies used and under development for utilizing coal to produce heat, electricity, and chemicals with low environmental impact, vision for utilizing coal well into the 21st century, and the security coal presents. - Clean Liquids and Gaseous Fuels from Coal for Electric Power - Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) systems - Pulverized-Coal Power Plants - Advanced Coal-Based Power Plants - Fluidized-Bed Combustion Technology - CO2 capture and sequestration

Democratising Development

Democratising Development PDF Author: Peris Jones
Publisher: Martinus Nijhoff Publishers
ISBN: 9004148213
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 302

Book Description
What are the prospects and means of achieving development through a democratic politics of socio-economic rights? Starting from the position that socio-economic rights are as legally and normatively valid as civil and political rights, this anthology explores the politics of acquiring and transforming socio-economic rights in South Africa. The post-apartheid South African experience shows that democracy is not a guarantee for elimination of poverty and inequality, but also that democratic institutions and politics may provide means for addressing past and present injustices. Thus it is argued that democratic politics of socio-economic rights democratises development while also developing democracy.

Development After Globalization

Development After Globalization PDF Author: John Saul
Publisher: Zed Books
ISBN: 9781842777534
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This reflection on the situation in the countries of the global South examines their shared but diverse experiences of the hard facts of poverty and exclusion in the world of capitalist globalization. It probes the reality of 'underdevelopment' in an unequal world, driven by western power and capitalist profit-seeking and supported by inequalities within the countries of the 'Third World' themselves. John Saul suggests fresh ways to consider the dynamics of this situation, and seeks to rethink the ways of linking a class-based struggle with the progressive demands of gender equality and identity politics. He looks towards a synthesis of democratic, socialist, and anti-imperialist sensibilities and invites scholars and activists alike to involve themselves in the kind of intellectual activism that can underpin local, national, regional and global struggles.
