Book Description
As the center of Northeast Asia (NEA) economy development, Tumen River Economic Zone (TREZ) or Tumen River Delta consists of three main subsystems - transport, economy and natural resources ones. What are the relation of these three subsystems and what kind of transportation planning can coordinate this district economic pattern? In this paper we present some conclusions about these. Traffic subsystem is the trigger of this regional economy, impelling the scale of regional economy; economic structure subsystem is the basic core one, defining the economic radiation scope; and natural resource ones is the prerequisite of keeping the continued regional economy .Traffic-Economic Belt is the special property of integrated transportation and economy in TREZ for three reasons:first, the favourable place in geography in TREZ second, a sound transport condition and the last, an opening zone in TREZ, as the transnational special economic zone, which will promote a new form of Northern East Asia regional economic structure under the collaboration and opening policy among these neighbouring countries. For the covering abstract of this conference see IRRD number 872978.

Infrastructure for a Seamless Asia

Infrastructure for a Seamless Asia PDF Author: Asian Development Bank
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Asia
Languages : en
Pages : 298

Book Description
This study examines major challenges and issues associated with developing regional infrastructure through the fostering of regional cooperation in Asia, and provides a framework for pan-Asian infrastructure cooperation. The study's long-term vision is the creation of a seamless Asia (an integrated region connected by world-class, environmentally friendly infrastructure) in terms of both "hard" (physical) and "soft" (facilitating) infrastructure. The soft part supports the development and operation of the hard component. Findings indicate that the benefits of upgrading and extending Asia's infrastructure networks are substantial, and that all countries in the region would benefit. A logistics network is only as good as its weakest link; each country in a regional supply chain gains from infrastructure improvements made in others. Improving connectivity in the region would bring Asia large welfare gains through increased market access, reduced trade costs, and more efficient energy production and use. According to the study, to achieve this Asia needs to invest approximately $8 trillion in overall national infrastructure between 2010 and 2020. In addition, Asia needs to spend approximately $290 billion on specific regional infrastructure projects in transport and energy that are already in the pipeline

Students of trends, policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics, journalists and anyone eager for a glimpse into the next decades, will find this report, with colored graphs, essential reading.

China's Belt and Road: A Game Changer?

China's Belt and Road: A Game Changer? PDF Author: Alessia Amighini (a cura di)
Publisher: Edizioni Epoké
ISBN: 8899647631
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 110

Book Description
Officially announced by Xi Jinping in 2013, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has since become the centrepiece of China’s economic diplomacy. It is a commitment to ease bottlenecks to Eurasian trade by improving and building networks of connectivity across Central and Western Asia, where the BRI aims to act as a bond for the projects of regional cooperation and integration already in progress in Southern Asia. But it also reaches out to the Middle East as well as East and North Africa, a truly strategic area where the Belt joins the Road. Europe, the end-point of the New Silk Roads, both by land and by sea, is the ultimate geographic destination and political partner in the BRI. This report provides an in-depth analysis of the BRI, its logic, rationale and implications for international economic and political relations.

World Development Report 2009

World Development Report 2009 PDF Author: World Bank
Publisher: World Bank Publications
ISBN: 082137608X
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 410

Book Description
Rising densities of human settlements, migration and transport to reduce distances to market, and specialization and trade facilitated by fewer international divisions are central to economic development. The transformations along these three dimensions density, distance, and division are most noticeable in North America, Western Europe, and Japan, but countries in Asia and Eastern Europe are changing in ways similar in scope and speed. 'World Development Report 2009: Reshaping Economic Geography' concludes that these spatial transformations are essential, and should be encouraged. The conclusion is not without controversy. Slum-dwellers now number a billion, but the rush to cities continues. Globalization is believed to benefit many, but not the billion people living in lagging areas of developing nations. High poverty and mortality persist among the world's 'bottom billion', while others grow wealthier and live longer lives. Concern for these three billion often comes with the prescription that growth must be made spatially balanced. The WDR has a different message: economic growth is seldom balanced, and efforts to spread it out prematurely will jeopardize progress. The Report: documents how production becomes more concentrated spatially as economies grow. proposes economic integration as the principle for promoting successful spatial transformations. revisits the debates on urbanization, territorial development, and regional integration and shows how today's developers can reshape economic geography.

Competitive Cities in the 21st Century PDF Author: Kyeong Ae Choe
Publisher: Asian Development Bank
ISBN: 9290924314
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 408

Book Description
Economic challenges in developing Asian countries have become more complex: urban populations are growing at great cost to the environment, climate change has increased risks of natural disasters, and income gaps within and between developing countries are widening. These factors threaten the sustainable growth and development of urban areas, the drivers of Asia's economy. A strategic approach for inclusive growth is needed. The City Cluster Economic Development approach provides a strategic framework and a set of analytical tools, which governments, businesses, and communities can use to support the inclusive and sustainable development of competitive urban economies in Asia. Said approach was developed and tested by the Asian Development Bank to improve the basis for integrated planning and development of urban regions in Asia and the Pacific. It also elps urban managers and other city stakeholders identify action plans and determine priority investment areas.
