Book Description
Control and Dynamic Systems: Advances in Theory in Applications, Volume 33: Advances in Aerospace Systems Dynamics and Control Systems, Part 3 of 3 deals with significant advances in technologies which support the development of aerospace systems. It also presents several algorithms and computational techniques for complex aerospace systems. This book first presents a survey of analytical redundancy techniques to improve turbine engine control systems. It then discusses techniques for remotely piloted vehicles; control configured vehicles (CCV) techniques; aircraft handling; pilot-vehicle dynamics; and optimal control techniques for complex aerospace structure. This text is an excellent reference for research and professional workers in the field who want a comprehensive source of techniques with significant applied implications.

A Theory for Handling Qualities with Applications to MIL-F-8785B.
Author: Ralph H. Smith

ISBN:
Category : Airplanes
Languages : en
Pages : 185
Book Description
This report hypothesizes a model for pilot-airplane system dynamics which, it is claimed, will unify existing theories, explain peculiarities in available human response data, and permit the prediction of pilot opinion rating (POR) for tasks of interest to the assessment of aircraft flying qualities. The hypothesized model structure is multiple loop with essential nonlinearities. The proposed pilot model is further hypothesized to account for much that has been identified as pilot adaptation in past work. An attempt to parameterize the proposed model by a trial and error digital computer simulation produced promising but inconclusive results. However, comparison of the proposed pilot model with known forms of measured pilot dynamics for a wide range of aircraft dynamics suggested a metric for the correlation and prediction of POR that appears to be physically related to activity at a particular point within the central nervous system. This metric was evaluated for certain available data sets and was shown to be a consistent and sensitive measure of POR. It was then used to evaluate the short-period requirements of the flying qualities specification MIL-F-8785B. Several general and specific changes to the specification are recommended as a result of this study. (Author).

Aircraft Handling Qualities
Author: MS. John Hodgkinson
Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell
ISBN: 9780632038169
Category : Transportation
Languages : en
Pages : 246
Book Description
This book provides a readable introduction to handling qualities, the combination of pilot acceptability and piloted performance with stability and control. It adopts the analytical and qualitative standpoints needed for handling qualities analysis and design of fixed-wing aircraft. Although there are several texts on stability and control, until now none has provided insight into the piloting concerns that have affected the success of recent fly-by-wire aircraft developments.

A Handling Qualities Theory for Precise Flight Path Control
Author: William Bihrle
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Airplanes
Languages : en
Pages : 29
Book Description
This paper discusses the overall subject of precise flight path control. A unifying precision control theory is presented and a control anticipation parameter is developed which relates the quantities that are involved in the man-machine precision control mechanism. A critical value for this parameter is suggested, based on experimental results, and is discussed in relation to pilot adaptability as reflected under the topics of control technique (control pumping), control function and control task. Also, an associated criterion in terms of aircraft characteristics is developed and techniques for improving the precision controllability of inherently deficient airframes through stick force and automatic flight control systems are discussed. Finally, experimental and analytical investigations are recommended which are deemed necessary for specifying the longitudinal handling qualities of manned vehicles.
