Biopolymers in Pharmaceutical and Food Applications, 2 Volumes PDF Author: Sougata Jana
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527848118
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 983

Book Description
Revolutionize the search for sustainable industry with these biodegradable materials The search for biodegradable materials has become an increasingly essential component of the global response to climate change and the urgent need for more sustainable industrial processes. Biodegradable polymers, either synthetic or natural, have become an explosive research subject as their applications in food, medicinal, and pharmaceutical industries become more and more apparent. There is an urgent need for chemists and other professionals working in these industries to understand the range of available biopolymers and how to use them. Biopolymers in Pharmaceutical and Food Applications presents an overview of all currently-known food-safe polymers and their applications for food and pharmaceutical technology. Its grasp of recent sustainable trends in biopolymer production and distribution make it a one-stop shop for researchers and industry professionals looking to understand the future of sustainable food production, pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications. Comprehensive and accessible, it has never been timelier as a contribution to these key industries. Readers of the two volumes of Biopolymers in Pharmaceutical and Food Applications will also find: Treatment of biopolymers including collagen, chitosan, carrageenan, and more Detailed discussion of drug delivery systems incorporating plant- and animal-based biopolymers An editor with extensive research and teaching experience in biopolymer and pharmaceutical research Biopolymers in Pharmaceutical and Food Applications is ideal for polymer chemists, pharmaceutical chemists, food scientists, and any other researcher looking to work with biodegradable polymers.

Seaweed Cultivation for Renewable Resources

Seaweed Cultivation for Renewable Resources PDF Author: Kimon T. Bird
Publisher: Elsevier Publishing Company
ISBN:
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 404

Book Description
In the 1970's and 80's, major research and development programs were launched to explore the possibility of using marine biomass as a source of energy. This volume, the first publication of its kind to appear on seaweed cultivation, not only reviews the accomplishments of the aforementioned programs, but also describes how this research relates to seaweed cultivation for other products, such as food, feed, and high value chemicals. Topics covered include the features of marine biomass production, biotechnological manipulations of marine algae, and marine biomass conversion to energy, as well as economics. The chapters, written by many of the major participants in the marine biomass program, synthesize a large number of technical reports, journal articles, symposia and conference proceedings and technology transfer meetings. The book will be of interest to mariculturists, marine engineers, chemists, biotechnologists, bioconversion scientists/engineers and companies dealing with industrial polysaccharides or other algal products.

Biomass Utilization

Biomass Utilization PDF Author: Wilfred Cote

Book Description
This proceedings volume represents the culmination of nearly three years of planning, organizing and carrying out of a NATO Ad vanced Study Institute on Biomass Utilization. The effort was initi ated by Dr. Harry Sobel, then Editor of Biosources Digest, and a steering committee representing the many disciplines that this field brings together. . When the fiscal and logistical details of the original plan could not be worked out, the idea was temporarily suspended. In the spring of 1982, the Renewable Materials Institute of the State University of New York at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, New York revived the plan. A number of modifications had to be made, including the venue which was changed from the U.S.A. to Portugal. Additional funding beyond the basic support provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO had to be obtained. Ul timately there were supplementary grants from the Foundation for Microbiology and the Anne S. Richardson Fund to assist student participants. The New York State College of Forestry Foundation, Inc. provided major support through the Renewable Ma terials Institute. The ASI was held in Alcabideche, Portugal from September 26 to October 9, 1982. Eighty participants including fifteen principal lecturers were assembled at the Hotel Sintra Estoril for the program that was organized as a comprehensive course on biomass utilization. The main lectures were supplemented by relevant short papers offered by the participants.
