Modern Psychoanalysis

Modern Psychoanalysis PDF Author: Judd Marmor
Publisher: Transaction Publishers
ISBN: 9781412828864
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 758

Book Description
Modern Psychoanalys is is a definitive exploration of the expanding horizons of this still controversial approach to and treatment of human behavior. In the first paperback release of a work sponsored by the American Academy of Psychoanalysis, thirty-five authorities explore new approaches to psychoanalytic theory and therapy, and examine the growing interaction between this field and the other social and behavioral sciences. "Modern Psychoanalysis "demonstrates how some of the leading figures are bringing their discipline into the mainstream of biological and social through!--making use of systems theory, information processing, the constructs of adaptation and learning, and other new tools and findings. The book is unusually free of the jargon that has separated psychoanalysis in the past from the rest of behavioral and social science. Some of the authors and their subjects are: Roy Grinker, "Conceptual Progress in Analysis"; Jin-gen Ruesch, "Psychoanalysis between Two Cultures"; Edward Tauber, "Dreaming and Modern Dream Theory"; Jules Masserman, "The Biody-namic Roots of Psychoanalysis"; Lewis H. Wolberg, "Short-term Psychotherapy"; Stuart M. Finch and Albert Cain, "Psychoanalysis of Children"; Morris Parloff, "Analytic Group Psychotherapy"; Salvador Minuchin, "The Low Socioeconomic Population"; Leonard Duhl and Robert Leopold, "Psychoanalysis and Social Agencies"; Leo'n Edel, "Psychoanalysis and the Creative Arts"; Arnold A. Rogow, "Psychiatry, History and Political Science"; and John R. Seeley, "Psychiatry: Revolution, Reform and Reaction." The volume is prepared with the rigor and comprehensiveness that should make the book a standard handbook for psychiatrists, psychologists, and behavioral scientists. And it is written with a sense of curious readers who may simply be interested in the basic stances of this controversial field of theory and practice. It has earned sufficient plaudits to be called a classic in the field. Judd Manner's new introduction gives added weight to such claims.

Psychotherapeutic Change Through the Group Process

Psychotherapeutic Change Through the Group Process PDF Author: Leonard Blank
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351495844
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 423

Book Description
Psychotherapeutic Change through the Group Process discusses the relation between the properties of groups and therapeutic change. The purpose is to develop a view of groups that accounts for the diversity, complexity, and fluidity of the group situation. The view examines the group in depth, attending not only to overt events, but also to covert aspects of specific situations. The work addresses manifest behaviors, underlying motivations; and the cognitive, rational aspects of the group. It explores the intense affect which may be generated under conditions of group interaction; not merely to the group or individual, but to the individual in the group and to the group as the context for personal experience and change. The research presented here was initially explored in small group studies. Separate investigations considered the ways in which patients and therapists view group events, the nature of deviation, and the development of group standards. They consider factors associated with therapeutic improvement and therapeutic failure; and characteristic concerns of early sessions. These, plus several discussions of theory and methodology have been published separately. The authors' working procedure has been to study intensively a relatively small number of groups, relying upon careful observation of natural groups rather than upon laboratory experimentation. The overall effort has been to understand the processes of therapy groups in all their clinical richness and intricacy and yet to impose a scientific discipline and control on our analyses. This has meant a continuing attempt to develop appropriate analytic procedures so that clinical analyses can be as firmly rooted as possible in concrete data and reproducible methods. This book is a unique effort at the scientific grounding of social work practice.
