Book Description
Excerpt from Tones on the Harp It is a privilege universally conceded to those who offer a work to the public, to preface the same with an explanatory, or, more generally, an extenuating, clause. But I waive the privilege; and will merely say, that if the substance of a book has not got the ring of pure metal, a preface stamp will never. Harp Music

Harp Music PDF Author: Helena Stone Torgerson
Publisher: Forgotten Books

Book Description
Excerpt from Harp Music: A Digest Classified Alphabetically and in Grades According to Degrees of Difficulty It was natural that as the mechanism of the harp was perfected, the players became ambitious to write, and at first, their efforts produced results more brilliant than musical. The exquisite color of the harp tone gave it a place of its own in orchestral composition and the great creative minds, from Ber lioz and Wagner down to the present day, havemade frequent and characteristic use of it. As a realization of its possibilities, as a vehicle of musi cal expression developed, many of the serious, crea tive artists have contributed fine examples of their art in solo and ensemble writing, thereby giving to harp music a dignity and character it needed. There are many compositions to suit all tastes, but it is my purpose to point out only the music of most worth, to student, teacher and player. To this end, I have carefully graded the entire contents of this work, using seven grades to denote the de grees of difficulty. The books of instruction, studies and etudes are in a section by themselves, with the exception of concert etudes which are listed in the alphabetical catalogue. Concerted pieces using harp as a basis are also independently classified. If there are any omissions, it is because the pieces were out of stock during the periods over which my work extended, and not because of intention. It was im possible to pass judgment on every entry, also there would be many differences of opinion as to the rela tive value of the material. But Where was the joy, when the tendrils that clung To the fond heart, were so suddenly bro ken? Who knows Of the anguish which the sad heart wrung, \vhen the pallor came, of death as the token? Is a thing of beauty a joy forever? I will not say so; no, never, never; For the beautiful flower gives joy but an houn Then it fades, and is gone forever. Book Description
Excerpt from Linden Harp: A Rare Collection of Popular Melodies, Adapted to Sacred and Moral Songs, Original and Selected; Illustrated; Also, a Manual of Musical Instruction I'r may perhaps be said by some that the country is now ooded with musical works of every description. Admitting the truth of this, we still believe, that while the world stands there will be room for more; and the Scriptural assertion, Of making many books, there is no end, will continue true. We, therefore, on'er no apology for presenting a new work, or for the work itself; as we have done our best to make it what it was designed to be, viz., a good and desirable song book for the youth of our country. We have not introduced anything but what we believed would add to interest or utility; and we sincerely hope, that the purchaser will enjoy in the use of the book at least a tithe of the pleasure which we have experienced in preparing it.
