A new translation of his seminal work, Perspective as Symbolic Form, was recently published by Zone Books; now three remarkable essays, one previously unpublished, place Panofsky's genius in a different perspective: What Is Baroque?, Style and Medium in the Motion Pictures,andThe Ideological Antecedents of the Rolls-Royce Radiator. The essays are framed by an introduction by Irving Lavin, Panofsky's successor as Professor of Art History at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, discussing the context of the essays' composition and their significance within Panofsky's oeuvre, and an insightful memoir by Panofsky's former student, close friend, and fellow emigr & e ́, William Heckscher. All three essays reveal unexpected aspects of Panofsky's sensibility, both personal and intellectual. Originally written as lectures for general audiences, they are composed in a lively, informal manner, and are full of charm and wit. The studies concern broadly defined problems of style in art--the visual symptoms endemic to works of a certain period (Baroque), medium (film), or national identity (England)--as opposed to the focus on iconography and subject matter usually associated with Panofsky's "method." The essay on Baroque, which Lavin considers "vintage Panofsky" and which appears here for the first time, and the one on film were written in 1934. The Rolls-Royce piece was written in 1962.

Social media platforms create rich social structures, expand users' boundaries of social networks and revolutionize traditional forms of communications, social interactions and social relationships. These platforms not only facilitate the creation and sharing of news and information, but they also drive various kinds of businesses models, processes and operations, knowledge sharing, marketing strategies for brand management and socio-political discourses essential for healthy and democratic functions. As such, social media has greater implications on organizations and society brought about by individuals' social media usage patterns, and therefore, calls for further investigations. The main objective of this dissertation is to explore and offer insights into such social media usage and information sharing behaviors via data driven examination of various theories. This dissertation involves three studies that focus on factors that explain individuals' three different social media usage behaviors. Essay 1 investigates individuals' perceived importance of online affiliation, self-esteem, self-regulation and risk-benefit structure as antecedents of users' geo-tagging behavior on social media. Essay 2 examines the role of online news quality, source credibility, individuals' perception towards online civic engagement, attitude towards news sharing and social influences to understand users' news sharing behavior on social media platforms. Essay 3 seeks to examine the individuals' information verification behavior on social media through the lens of individuals' fake news awareness, perceived cost of information verification, trust in social media and truth-seeking.

In line with recent interest in social movements in OT and IS literatures and vis-à-vis the increasing digitalization of societies, in this dissertation I study the material enactment of social movements with, through, and by social media. In so doing, instead of separating social media and social movements to study their interactions--a maneuver that forecloses investigation into the situated constitution of both--I adopt a posthumanist performative perspective and shift my analytical gaze on the everyday actions and practices entailed in social media activism. This dissertation contributes to both OT and IS literatures. Specifically, in each essay I develop a practice-based material-discursive understanding of the subject matter that is useful in engaging, investigating, and making sense of phenomena entailed in social media organizing and their consequences. The novelty and relevance for the OT literature comes from attending to the constitutive role of materiality in organizing processes, while, an additional novelty and relevance for the IS literature comes from attending to issues of contestation, politics, and collective agency vis-à-vis social media. Finally, I make a distinctive contribution by attending to the understudied context of right-wing movements.
