Book Description
When the foes are inside you, the only option left is to fight... Introducing Thou Shalt Never Get Rid of Us, a story of an uncanny part of Miguel Asecas' life. It is a true story told without makeup. An explosive combination of drugs, stress, and sleep deprivation which led him to an ordeal of twenty-five long years, during which his life elapsed between two very different worlds: the actual world as known by all of us, with a lifestyle not so different than that of many other people. And then there was an inner world full of delusions, paranoia, and auditive hallucinations, in which there are happening situations and appearing characters every time more bizarre. His goal: to not allow “them” to ruin his life. To do that he felt would be enough. This story is also that of a process of personal growth and recovery. He quit taking drugs and transitioned from being almost overwhelmed by the voices to coping successfully with them and even taming them to an extent. This is not a guide, nor a manual for others to copy, but is a tale of courage and triumph all the same.

The God I Don't Understand

The God I Don't Understand PDF Author: Christopher J. H. Wright
Publisher: Zondervan
ISBN: 0310574358
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 225

Book Description
Many Christians believe that they have to understand everything about their faith for that faith to be genuine. This isn't true. There are many things we don't understand about God, His Word, and His works. And this is actually one of the greatest things about the Christian faith: that there are areas of mystery that lie beyond the keenest scholarship or even the most profound spiritual exercises. Sadly, for many people these problems raise so many questions and uncertainties that faith itself becomes a struggle. But questions, and even doubts, are part of faith. Chris Wright encourages us to face the limitations of our understanding and to acknowledge the pain and grief they can often cause. In The God I Don't Understand, he focuses on four of the most mysterious subjects in the Bible and reflects upon why it's important to ask questions without having to provide the answer: The problem of evil and suffering. The genocide of the Canaanites. The cross and the crucifixion. The end of the world. "However strongly we believe in divine revelation, we must acknowledge both that God has not revealed everything and that much of what he has revealed is not plain. It is because Dr. Wright confronts biblical problems with a combination of honesty and humility that I warmly commend this book." —John Stott

Gospel-Centered Discipleship

Gospel-Centered Discipleship PDF Author: Jonathan K. Dodson
Publisher: Crossway
ISBN: 1433530244
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
Reflecting on the practice of disciple making in young adult, college, graduate, and local church contexts, Jonathan Dodson has discerned some common pitfalls. For many, discipleship is reduced to a form of religious performance before God. For others, it devolves into spiritual license and a loose adherence to spiritual facts. Both approaches distort biblical motivations for Christian obedience and are in need of reform. By explaining various motivations for discipleship, Dodson charts a biblically faithful, grace-driven alternative. Additionally, he provides a practical model for creating gospel-centered discipleship groups—small, reproducible, missional, gender-specific groups of believers that fight for faith together. This book blends both theology and practice to inspire and equip Christians to effectively fight sin, keep Jesus central, and make gospel-centered discipleship a way of life. Both new and growing Christians will learn to trust the gospel in community as they fight together for holiness as well as how to start gospel-centered community groups in any local church.

The Holiest Day of the Year Yom Kippur

The Holiest Day of the Year Yom Kippur PDF Author: Unknown Hebrew
Publisher: Unknown Hebrew
ISBN: 1951476662
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 64

Book Description
Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) is viewed as the holiest day of the year for Israelites. It is a day of Sabbath rest, and it is the only day a fast is required from sunset on one day, to sundown the next day; no food or drink; we are also to set aside other things that connect us to this world and that give comfort to our bodies. Traditionally, Israelites would not bath; they would not oil their bodies, no wearing of shoes, and no marital relations. It is a time of genuinely afflicting your soul. We are called to repent, change our hearts, and return to YAHUAH; it is a time of sincere self-assessment. We are to reach out and make amends to people that we need to make amends with; forgive people who seek forgiveness and let old grudges go. The purpose of all this affliction is to get our minds off of ourselves and focus on our spiritual state; the entire day is focused on praying and asking the Most High for forgiveness. Historically, on the day of Atonement, the high priest was kept awake during the dark of the night, and he dressed in a white linen garment for the sacrifices of the bull, the ram, and the goat. He would make a sacrifice for himself and Israel. In this book, we will explain the purpose of these sacrifices; what was done with the blood as well as the two goats. We will examine how he was to enter into the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Holy of Holies. We not only discuss what the book of Leviticus has to say about this day, but we will examine the book of Jubilees for those who want to go a bit deeper into the details. This book will explore the order of Melchizedek and explain who is the King and high priest; also, we will see why animal sacrifices are no longer needed today. If you want to see where all these dots are connected, read this book. We encourage you to keep the Day of Atonement and find out for yourself why it is viewed as the Holiest day of the year.
