Colour Chemistry
Author: R. L. Allen
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461566630
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 348
Book Description
Students embarking upon a colour chemistry course usually approach it by way of a general introduction and proceed to more detailed treatment of the subject when they have acquired some knowledge of its character and scope. This book has been written with the twofold purpose of serving as a guide to such students during the introductory part of their course and of supplying the needs in this field of others whose main interest is in a related branch of technology or pure chemistry. An attempt has been made to present the main features of the subject in an easily assimilable form. The great amount of published information renders the choice of material for a short book somewhat difficult, and I am keenly conscious of topics that might be thought worthy of more extensive treatment. However, a concise account cannot be comprehensive, and suggestions for further reading are provided at the end of the book. The chemistry of colouring matters can be regarded as a branch of pure chemistry, but the development of knowledge in this field has followed a course determined chiefly by the applications of dyes and pigments. It has therefore appeared appropriate to treat the subject here as a branch of technology.

Investigation of Tetralin Explosion
Author: J. S. McDonald
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Heat
Languages : en
Pages : 70
Book Description
An investigation was conducted to determine the cause of an explosion which occurred August 16, 1959, in the sodium laboratory at the Atomics International Division's Santa Susana facility. The explosion occurred in apparatus used for a natural-convection heat-transfer experiment with sodium. During the course of the experiment, cooling was provided to the heat sink by circulating tetraphydronaphthalene (tetralin). At the conclusion of the work, tetralin was allowed to remain stagnant in the cooling section over a period of several months. The autooxidation of tetralin to the hydroperoxide is postulated, the explosion resulting from the rapid decomposition of this compound. The condition and circumstances initiating the decomposition are unknown.

Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control
Author: Martin B. B. Hocking
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080478271
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 833
Book Description
The Handbook of Chemical Technology and Pollution Control, Third Edition provides a detailed review of the chemistry and operating conditions of many of the present large-scale chemical processes important to our economy and high standards of living. The processes that could lead to emissions affecting our air, soil, and water are considered, together with ways in which it may be possible to reduce or eliminate these pollutants. Focusing on cleaner production concepts without neglecting 'end of pipe' measures. With an increase in the awareness of corporate and social responsibility among business and industry leaders, the pressure to reduce harmful emissions and the desire to increase efficiencies and energy utilization, this book provides an essential resource. Suitable for researchers, practitioners and postgraduate students in the fields of chemical and biochemical engineering and environmental science, as well as government monitoring and regulatory agencies and industry leaders who want to stay one step ahead, this book will be a valuable addition to any library. - Integrated treatment of chemical technology with emission control chemistry - Introductory outline of the causes and effects of air and water pollution chemistry - Outline of the operating features and efficiency of basic emission control devices - Historical background of developments in industrial chemistry to 2004 in a single volume - Organized for easy access to chemical technology, new developments, or emission control details - Referenced to current additional sources of information in each area covered - Review questions provide working experience with the material provided
