Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins PDF Author: Nancy D. Naeser
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461234921
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 555

Book Description
The collection of papers in this volume is a direct result of the Society of Economic Paleontologists and Mineralogists Research Symposium on "Thermal History of Sedimentary Basins: Methods and Case Histories" held as part of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Annual Convention in New Orleans in March 1985. The original goal of the sym posium was to provide a forum where specialists from a variety of dis ciplines could present their views of methods that can be used to study the thermal history of a sedimentary basin or an important portion of a basin. An explicit part of that goal was to illustrate each method by presentation of a case history application. The original goal is addressed by the chapters in this volume, each of which emphasizes a somewhat different approach and gives field data in one way or another to illustrate the practical useful ness ofthe method. The significance of our relative ignorance of the thermal conductivities of sedimentary rocks, especially shales, in efforts to understand or model sedimentary basin thermal histories and maturation levels is a major thrust of the chapter by Blackwell and Steele. Creaney focuses on variations in kerogen composition in source rocks of different depositional environments and the degree to which these chem- . ically distinct kerogens respond differently to progressive burial heating.

Basin Analysis and Modeling of the Burial, Thermal and Maturation Histories in Sedimentary Basins

Basin Analysis and Modeling of the Burial, Thermal and Maturation Histories in Sedimentary Basins PDF Author: Monzer Makhous
Publisher: Editions Technips
ISBN: 9782710808466
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This book is devoted to the field of basin analysis, and in particular to the one- and two-dimensional modeling of the burial, thermal and maturation histories of sedimentary basins, in the context of evaluating their hydrocarbon potential. A new modeling system is elaborated in this work and applied to continental basins. Particular attention is paid to specific features of basin evolution, including the compaction of sediments deposited at a variable rate, erosion of the sedimentary strata and basement, intrusive and hydrothermal activity, thermal activation and reactivation of the basement, lateral heat exchange of multiple-aged blocks of the oceanic and continental lithospheres, the jumping of spreading axes, etc. Alternative methods are applied for the control of tectonic subsidence, isostasy and rheology, lithosphere stretching and thinning.

Quantitative Methods

Quantitative Methods PDF Author: Lan Lerche
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323145477
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 577

Book Description
Basin Analysis: Quantitative Methods, Volume 1 discusses the problems of quantitative basin analysis in relation to oil accumulations. This book explains the three primary factors that contribute to oil occurrences. Organized into 11 chapters, this volume starts with an overview of the quantitative methods of reconstructing the burial history of sedimentary material in basins. This text then explores the problem of quantitative reconstruction of the thermal history of sedimentary basins based on both inversion of thermal indicator data and on model-derived heat fluxes. Other chapters integrate the hydrocarbon generation, accumulation, and migration modeling aspects with the burial history and thermal history. This book discusses as well the repercussions of various hydrocarbon models for oil accumulation sites. The final chapter shows how both thermal information and burial history can be combined to determine emplacement, timing, and erosion of geological events. Professional geologists, geophysicists, and petroleum exploration scientist will find this book useful.

Sedimentary Basins

Sedimentary Basins PDF Author: Gerhard Einsele
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662040298
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 795

Book Description
This completely revised and enlarged second edition provides an up-to-date overview of all major topics in sedimentary geology. It is unique in its quantitative approach to denudation-accumulation systems and basin fillings, including dynamic aspects. The relationship between tectonism and basin evolution as well as the concepts of sequence cycle and event stratigraphy in various depositional environments are extensively discussed. Numerous, often composite figures, a well-structured text, brief summaries in boxes, and several examples from all continents make the book an invaluable source of information for students, researchers and professors in academia as well as for professionals in the oil industry.
