Book Description
Among the features of modern society, the increase of life expectancy and the population global ageing can be mentioned. At the same time, many authors underline that chronological life extension is not supported by the preservation of its quality. The current reality demands searching for potential resources of the aging person and the mechanisms of their implementation as an essential condition of life quality improvement, the autonomy and the personu2019s dignity maintenance.Nowadays, the problems of physiological potentials in the old age have been mostly investigated. The results of numerous publications show that at the background of the age functional resources decrease we observe the diversity of individual differences determined by variable combination of genetic prerequisites and conditions of life activity from the individual environment at different stages of personality development. Social resources are estimated from the standpoint of ageing peopleu2019s social adaptation to the modern socio-economic situation, social services role, socio-cultural and socio-political adaptation, the phenomenon of loneliness, overcoming social exclusion, etc. In general, we emphasize the importance and timeliness of implementation of social resources as external mediators (conditions) which can stimulate or compensate personal physiological opportunities in the period of ageing. The problem of psychological resources is traditionally described in the framework of the issue of coping behavior as a set of individual psychological coping resources that include preservation and integration of cognitive, moral, motivational and value-based personality components. There is another approach that views the ageing psychological reserve through the prism of personality resource as individual experience of u201cself-cognition and self-creatingu201dgained in the result of passing definite stages of self-development essentially defined as life experience. It is important that life experience is preserved as a sense-making personality component which determines the development of personality at the stages of elderly. Due to various reasons, an individual spends not all the personal reserves during his or her life creating u201cthe space of the possibleu201d. The impact of unclaimed experience at the stage of ageing depends on the preservation of the u201cability to use oneu2019s capabilitiesu201d of self-determined choice and autonomous subject activity, adaptive resistance to external circumstances influence and an openness to something new, positive treatment of oneself as a value. The conclusion focuses on the integrative approaches to the role of resources in the period of ageing. The preservation of life resources is an important condition of successful ageing, of potential mobilization from the viewpoint of life experience of potential actualization and implementation that enables an ageing person to be an active subject of his or her own life. The role of structured and focused creative activity in the potential life experience implementation for a successful ageing maintenance is highlighted.
