Book Description
The transmission coefficients T/sub l/ and total reaction cross sections sigma /sub R/ for alpha particles from 0 to 46 Mev interacting with twenty target nuclei with atomic numbers from 10 to 92 are calculated with optical model program in which a previously determined complex nuclear potential is utilized. The dependence of the T/sub l/ values, and hence of sigma /sub R/, on the Woods- Saxon parameters is investigated as a function of projectile energy. The optical model reaction cross sections are compared with those derived from a square-well potential and a model which approximates the real optical model potential barrier by a parabola and makes use of the Hill-Wheeler penetration formula for a parahelic potential. (auth).

Description of Alpha-nucleus Interaction Cross Sections for Cosmic Ray Shielding Studies

Description of Alpha-nucleus Interaction Cross Sections for Cosmic Ray Shielding Studies PDF Author: Francis A. Cucinotta
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Alpha rays
Languages : en
Pages : 48

Book Description
Nuclear interactions of high-energy alpha particles with target nuclei important for cosmic ray studies are discussed. Models for elastic, quasi-elastic, and breakup reactions are presented and compared with experimental data. Energy-dependent interaction cross sections and secondary spectra are presented based on theoretical models and the limite experimental data base.

Average Cross Sections For the C12(C12,Alpha)Ne20 Reactions

Average Cross Sections For the C12(C12,Alpha)Ne20 Reactions PDF Author: Erich W. Vogt
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 13

Book Description
Measurements of the integrated cross sections and angular distributions of the C12(C12, alpha) Ne20 reactions for alpha particles leaving Ne20 in the ground state and first excited state, are averaged over the energy interval of 10.15 to 12.8 MeV (in the center-of-mass frame) and compared with calculations based on the statistical theory of nuclear reactions. The calculations employ optical-model transmission functions of the correct energy for each of the channels open to the compound nucleus. (Author).

Compound-Nuclear Reactions

Compound-Nuclear Reactions PDF Author: Jutta Escher
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030580822
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 312

Book Description
The Compound-Nuclear Reaction and Related Topics (CNR*) international workshop series was initiated in 2007 with a meeting near Yosemite National Park. It has since been held in Bordeaux (2009), Prague (2011), Sao Paulo (2013), Tokyo (2015), and Berkeley, California (2018). The workshop series brings together experts in nuclear theory, experiment, data evaluations, and applications, and fosters interactions among these groups. Topics of interest include: nuclear reaction mechanisms, optical model, direct reactions and the compound nucleus, pre-equilibrium reactions, fusion and fission, cross section measurements (direct and indirect methods), Hauser-Feshbach theory (limits and extensions), compound-nuclear decays, particle and gamma emission, level densities, strength functions, nuclear structure for compound-nuclear reactions, nuclear energy, nuclear astrophysics, and other topics. This peer-reviewed proceedings volume presents papers and poster summaries from the 6th International Workshop on Compound-Nuclear Reactions and Related Topics CNR*18, held on September 24-28, 2018, at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, Berkeley, CA.
