The Yields of Transition

The Yields of Transition PDF Author: Jana S. Rošker
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1443827983
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 310

Book Description
The present volume is dedicated to the Wei Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties (220–589 AD), which is generally regarded as one of the most fascinating phases in Chinese history. The collection opens new theoretical and methodological pathways in sinological studies, bringing to the forefront a new idea of intercultural encounters based upon a culture of recognition. It highlights the significance of transition in the making of Chinese culture and history, revises prevailing historical approaches in the study and research of China and develops and enhances existing theories or methodologies in this specific area of research. The wide diversity of contributions to the present volume reflects the multifaceted potential for creativity and renewal of this period. The focus is upon the interaction of ideas, researches and perspectives concerning a broad scope of relevant and significant issues in contemporary sinology. In order to understand this diversity, a wide range of cultural, theoretical and historical aspects are considered. The book reveals a new image of the period, thereby undermining the absolute authority and putative objectivity of common historical sources and interpretations. It shows that this was a period rich with political, economic, cultural and theoretical achievements that would prove decisive for the future development of Chinese culture and society.

Inorganic Chemistry of the Transition Elements

Inorganic Chemistry of the Transition Elements PDF Author: B. F. G. Johnson
Publisher: Royal Society of Chemistry
ISBN: 0851865402
Category : Chemistry, Inorganic
Languages : en
Pages : 542

Book Description
Annotation. Specialist Periodical Reports provide systematic and detailed review coverage of progress in the major areas of chemical research. Written by experts in their specialist fields the series creates a unique service for the active research chemist, supplying regular critical in-depth accounts of progress in particular areas of chemistry. For over 80 years the Royal Society of Chemistry and its predecessor, the Chemical Society, have been publishing reports charting developments in chemistry, which originally took the form of Annual Reports. However, by 1967 the whole spectrum of chemistry could no longer be contained within one volume and the series Specialist Periodical Reports was born. The Annual Reports themselves still existed but were divided into two, and subsequently three, volumes covering Inorganic, Organic and Physical Chemistry. For more general coverage of the highlights in chemistry they remain a 'must'. Since that time the SPR series has altered according to the fluctuating degree of activity in various fields of chemistry. Some titles have remained unchanged, while others have altered their emphasis along with their titles; some have been combined under a new name whereas others have had to be discontinued. The current list of Specialist Periodical Reports can be seen on the inside flap of this volume.

The Brittle-Ductile Transition in Rocks

The Brittle-Ductile Transition in Rocks PDF Author: Al G. Duba
Publisher: American Geophysical Union
ISBN: 0875900259
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 246

Book Description
Published by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Geophysical Monograph Series, Volume 56. "The roses seem to have a mildew," Lucy said as I drank my morning coffee. "I'll ask Hugh about it," flashed through my mind, but not past my lips since he's been dead for over two years. I wonder if this isn't typical for his friends and colleagues. Hugh's ability and willingness to help, his unselfish cooperation not just in research but in life, are what made him special to those who worked closely with him. Many who read this volume are familiar with the varied contributions he made to rock mechanics and to high?]pressure research. Consistent with his reputation, the things that impressed me when I first worked with Hugh in 1969 were his enthusiasm for work and his ability to keep pressure systems working well. Although these qualities still come to mind when I think of Hugh, the thing that usually remains is a warm feeling of pleasure at having been his friend and shared part of his life.

Structure and Properties of Oriented Polymers

Structure and Properties of Oriented Polymers PDF Author: Ian M. Ward
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401158444
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 546

Book Description
The first edition was produced at a time when the advantages of studying oriented polymers were just becoming apparent. From a sci entific stand point it had been demonstrated that greater insight into both structure and properties could be obtained if an oriented polymer was prepared. From a technological viewpoint, major advances were under way, especially in high modulus and high strength fibres. Twenty years later, it is possible to review the scientific advances which have been made in this area and to provide much wider perspectives for the technology. As in the case of the first edition, the emphasis is on the methodologies available for characterizing oriented polymers and their mechanical behaviour. It is a particular pleasure to thank the contributing authors for their cooperation and Dr Philip Hastings of Chapman & Hall for his support and encouragement. I am also indebted to Professors A. H. Windle and D. C. Bassett for their respective contributions to sections 1. 3. 1 and 1. 3. 4. Although this chapter has been extensively revised, the contribution of the late Leslie Holliday to the first edition of this book is also acknowledged. Introduction 1 I. M. Ward 1. 1 THE PHENOMENON OF ORIENTATION Orientation in polymers is a phenomenon of great technical and theo retical importance. The word orientation itself conveys a number of ideas.
