This may be expreffed in one fentence to unite together piety and litera ture - to lhew their relation to, and their influence one upon another - and to guard againfi any thing that may tend to feparate them, and fet them in op pofition one to another. This is, of more confe quence, and indeed of more difficulty than perhaps you will as yet be able to apprehend experience, however, has taught me to view it in a molt impor tant light.
