Book Description
'The Witnesses to the Historicity of Jesus' is a religious themed book by agnostic author Arthur Drews. Drews writes this book in an effort to debunk the myth of the historicity of Jesus of the Bible. He seeks to demonstrate that the various non-Biblical sources commonly used to give further weight to the existence of Jesus as claimed in the Scriptures, are in fact further evidence of his non-existence.

Book Description
Excerpt from The Witnesses to the Historicity of Jesus The present work is an abbreviated and amended version, for English readers, of the volume which the author recently published as the second part of The Christ-Myth (English translation, 1910, Fisher Unwin). The author described this part as "an answer to his opponents, with special reference to theological methods," and dealt in the early part of it with the theological critics who had assailed the results and the methods adopted by him. It will be seen that the fault of method is entirely on the side of the opponents, and that theologians can maintain the historical reality of Jesus on methodical arguments only when their methods are pre-arranged to load to that result. It is not the author's intention wholly to omit the points of this controversy, as in this respect there is no difference between the theologians of Germany and those of other countries. The chief aim of the work, however, is to collect, examine, and refute the arguments which are advanced on the theological side for the historicity of Jesus. In spite of their arrogant behaviour, the German theologians have not been able to produce one single decisive reason for the historicity of Jesus. It remains to be seen whether the English authorities can adduce better proof of the validity of the Christian belief than their German colleagues have done. Besides doing this necessary critical work, it is hoped that the book may also provide a better explanation of the rise of the Christian religion than historical theology, as it is called, has yet afforded. Witnesses to Mystery

Witnesses to Mystery PDF Author: Grzegorz Górny
Publisher: Ignatius Press
ISBN: 158617844X
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
In this lavishly illustrated large coffee-table volume, writer Gorny and photographer Rosikon embarked on a two year investigative journey to seek the truth behind all the relics associated with the passion of Christ. The authors investigated a rich body of documentary evidence found in various museums, archives and churches surrounding sacred objects believed to have been preserved since Jesus' lifetime, exploring and collaborating with historians and scientists in their attempt to verify the relics' authenticity. They reach their conclusions not so much on the basis of faith as on the evidence supplied by historical sources and expert scientific opinion. The relics associated with the Passion - the suffering, death and burial of Christ - have long proved something of an enigma for the scientific community. Relics investigated, and photographed, for this glorious volume include: the Cross, nails, crown of thorns, pillar of scourging, Christ's tunic, the Veil of Manoppello, the Sudarium of Oviedo, the famous Shroud of Turin burial cloth and more.
