From Lawyer to Warrior

From Lawyer to Warrior PDF Author: Chris Pavlak
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781544538471
Category : Marines
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
I had been fortunate enough to seize an opportunity...to explore the unknown. To be denied this experience or to somehow have it stripped away would have left me with one looming question: what might have been? When Chris Pavlak failed the bar exam in 2006 and 2007, the comfortable optimism of becoming an attorney vanished, replaced by feelings of shame, humiliation, and inadequacy. Fixated on the financial ascendancy of being a lawyer for a large law firm, Chris had attended law school for all the wrong reasons. In that hypercompetitive environment he became singularly focused on comparing himself to others, status, and making money. When chaos reared its ugly head in the form of repeated failures, he realized he would have to radically reshape his life. Uncertain about where a new path might lead, Chris embarked on a life of service in the United States Marine Corps. In From Lawyer to Warrior, Chris shows how failure might be considered an opportunity to willfully and courageously confront the chaos of life. The crucible of Marine officer training and the privilege of leading Marines ultimately helped recalibrate the vision of his life. This is an honest and inspirational memoir about reinvention and reclamation-of finding meaning in the uniqueness of personal tragedy by being absorbed in something bigger than yourself, camaraderie, and being responsible for others.

David the Warrior / David the Politician PDF Author: BENJAMIN LEE VINCE
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 149691368X
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 151

Book Description
But David tarried behind. The scribe has chosen a subordinating conjunction (but) to conceal a negative abstraction worthy of investigation. The verb tarried is passive in its expression, and it too is hiding a secret. The scribe is trying to lead us to believe that David was tired and needed a rest; however, investigations persuade us to believe that something else was on his mindCould it be, a few days before, David received a text message from Bathsheba to induce his probing spirit that kept him home and awake? after all, they were neighbors and David was a cats meowCould it be that their attraction factors were aroused and one or the other made a gesture of willingness?Could it be also that she had seen him up there before and lust was conceived in her heartand she thought this a tranquil opportunity to gratify her lust?and, if it came to light, he could sweep it under his political rugDavid, turning to politics to cover his tracks was the mistake of his life, and many in religious leadership are following the same path.

The Warrior, Military Ethics and Contemporary Warfare

The Warrior, Military Ethics and Contemporary Warfare PDF Author: Pauline M. Kaurin
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1317011775
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 154

Book Description
When it comes to thinking about war and warriors, first there was Achilles, and then the rest followed. The choice of the term warrior is an important one for this discussion. While there has been extensive discussion on what counts as military professionalism, that is what makes a soldier, sailor or other military personnel a professional, the warrior archetype (varied for the various roles and service branches) still holds sway in the military self-conception, rooted as it is in the more existential notions of war, honor and meaning. In this volume, Kaurin uses Achilles as a touch stone for discussing the warrior, military ethics and the aspects of contemporary warfare that go by the name of 'asymmetrical war.' The title of the book cuts two ways-Achilles as a warrior archetype to help us think through the moral implications and challenges posed by asymmetrical warfare, but also as an archetype of our adversaries to help us think about asymmetric opponents.
