Excerpt from War Food Administration Achievement "A" Award Manual for Food Processors Every food-processing plant-large or small, seasonal, or year round-is eligible to compete for the War Food Administration Achievement A Award. No one plant can possess both the wea A and the army-navy E. However, a company owning separate plants may obtain an A for one plant and an E for another. The quantity of production of the individual plant for the direct use of the Army or Navy is the governing factor for consideration for the E award. The standards to be met by food processors in winning the Achieve ment A Award are comparable with those required for the army-navy E. Each award is paramount in its own field. Nominations for the A award are originated by Regional Directors of the office of Distribution or by commodity branches of the office of Distribution in Washington, D. C However, any employee of the War Food Administration or the United States Department of Agriculture may propose the nomination of a food processor through the above channels. The A award is granted, on a yearly basis, only 'to food processors who meet rigid requirements in regard to quality and quantity of produc tion. -outstanding among these requirements are efficient utilization of existing facilities for wartime production; ingenuity and cooperation with the Government in developing and producing war food products; cooperation with-the intents and purposes of the food purchase programs; effective management; overcoming of production obstacles; satisfactory \management - labor relations, including avoidance of steppages; training of additional labor forces; low records of absenteeism; accident prevention and health and sanitation.
