International Joint Ventures

International Joint Ventures PDF Author: Dennis Campbell
Publisher: Kluwer Law International B.V.
ISBN: 904112800X
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages : 658

Book Description
Joint ventures have become a common vehicle for companies to create strategic alliances with partners that have complementary capabilities and resources, fostering opportunities to exploit distribution channels, technology, or finance in ways not available to the sole partners. Simply put, in a joint venture, two or more parent companies agree to pool defined capital, technology, human resources, risks, and rewards in the formation of a distinct entity under shared control. The complexities of such an arrangement are magnified when the project embraces more than one jurisdiction. In this special issue of the Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business, practitioners who have specialized in domestic and cross border joint venture formations report on their respective jurisdictions as well as particular cross border issues. The volume provides national reports on Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Greece, India, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, The Philippines, Romania, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey, and Vietnam. European competition law relative to joint ventures, taxation issues in The Netherlands, and governing law also are treated.

Internal Strategic Success Factors for Technology Joint Ventures

Internal Strategic Success Factors for Technology Joint Ventures PDF Author: Xiaoxiao Cao

Pages : 84

Book Description
In this globalized world, more and more companies expand their businesses to China, and optimize resources utilization. There are many researches on what the barriers are, and what mode should be chosen to enter Chinese market. In contrast, there's not much study on topics like how a foreign company can survive in the competitive Chinese market, or how to gain more profit after successfully entering Chinese market. Since most high-tech companies use joint venture mode to enter developing cities instead of developed cities in China, the research question for the book is: does improvement of key internal strategic factors in high- technology joint venture firms which entered developing cities in China within five years lead to higher financial performance? The book uses deductive and quantitative methods to analyze data from 99 top managers in high-tech joint venture companies in Tongzhou. The results are found that sales and R&D have significantly positive relationship with financial performance; besides, integration is also a correlated factor.

Engineered in Japan

Engineered in Japan PDF Author: Jeffrey K. Liker
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN: 0195095553
Category : Research, Industrial
Languages : en
Pages : 421

Book Description
Engineered in Japan presents a unique and comprehensive examination of technology management in the most successful Japanese companies: unique in that all chapters go beyond superficial descriptions of stylized practices to look in depth at particular issues, often contradicting or qualifying the conventional wisdom; comprehensive in that it covers the entire technology life cycle from basic R&D, to development engineering, to manufacturing processes, to learning from the Japanese. Each chapter is based on original research by noted scholars in the field, and identifies technology management practices that have become a major source of competitive advantage for highly successful Japanese companies. Engineered in Japan documents the best practices from such companies as Toyota, Hitachi, Toshiba, and Nippondenso, and discusses how these technology management practices can be usefully adopted in other cultural contexts. Going beyond past observations, the authors all delve below the surface of Japanese management approaches. They look more closely than has been done before at how particular methods are applied, and they identify some new practices that have not yet been highlighted in books on Japanese methods. Presenting recent data that contradict some conventional thinking about U.S.-Japanese differences, they look at old techniques from a new perspective. "U.S. managers can perhaps learn more from the process of creation in Japan and the organizational structures that support innovation," say the editors in their introduction, "than from the particular approaches, tools, and technologies created." A running theme throughout the book is that Japanese managers and engineers tend to think in terms of systems, focusing not just on the parts but on the connections between them. Engineered in Japan is must reading for technology managers and engineers, along with anyone interested in Japanese business, engineering, and management.
