Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461303931
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 427

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 39 (thesis year 1994) a total of 13,953 thesis titles from 21 Canadian and 159 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 39 reports theses submitted in 1994, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Modular Online Learning Design

Modular Online Learning Design PDF Author: Amanda Nichols Hess
Publisher: American Library Association
ISBN: 0838948146
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 143

Book Description
Does your online instruction program sometimes feel like a constant scramble to keep pace with requests and deadlines? Modular design is the answer. Approaching projects, whether large and small, with an eye towards future uses will put you on the path to accomplishing broader, organizational goals. And by intentionally building documentation and structure into your process, you will create content that can easily be scaled, modified, adapted, and transformed to meet different learner needs. Hess, experienced in online instruction in both K-12 and academic libraries, shows you how, using project examples of various sizes to illustrate each chapter’s concepts. Her resource guides you through such topics as the eight components of modular online learning design; key considerations for choosing the design model that best fits your organization and project; techniques for connecting your online learning goals with institutional strategy; using the IDEA process to align OER content with your instructional needs; documenting your planning with checklists, scaffolds, and templates; ensuring equity of access with all content formats using the Accessibility Inventory Index; principles for scaling up, down, or laterally; three models for more meaningful and functional collaboration with internal or external partners; and formative testing as a foundation for ongoing evaluation and assessment.

Workshop Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Intelligent Environments

Workshop Proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Intelligent Environments PDF Author: J.A. Botía
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 1614990808
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 468

Book Description
Intelligent environments (IE) play an increasingly important role in many areas of our lives, including education, healthcare and the domestic environment. The term refers to physical spaces incorporating pervasive computing technology used to achieve specific goals for the user, the environment or both. This book presents the proceedings of the workshops of the 8th International Conference on Intelligent Environments (IE ‘12), held in Guanajuato, Mexico, in June 2012. The workshops which make up the conference range from regular lectures to practical sessions. They provide a forum for scientists, researchers and engineers from both industry and academia to engage in discussions on newly emerging or rapidly evolving topics in the field. Topics covered in the workshops include intelligent environments supporting healthcare and well-being; artificial intelligence techniques for ambient intelligence; large-scale intelligent environments; intelligent domestic robots; intelligent environment technology in education; multimodal interfaces applied in skills transfer, healthcare and rehabilitation; the reliability of intelligent environments and improving industrial automation using intelligent environments. IE can enrich user experience, better manage the environment's resources, and increase user awareness of that environment. This book will be of interest to all those whose work involves the application of intelligent environments.
