Book Description
A Thanksgiving Dog Story You'll Never Forget! This is the Special Color Edition with full-color illustrations. Does your family talk about your interesting relatives? Tell tales about crazy uncles or swap stories about odd aunts? Of course! All families have lots of funny stories. But most people don't know that dogs have stories about THEIR families, too. Laura would never have believed that dogs even HAVE thoughts. Would you? But while Laura was quietly doing math homework one day, she heard a strange little voice. At first she was a scared, since most fourth-graders don't hear voices, but soon she figured out that her dog, Perdita, was transmitting "thought particles" directly into her brain. And those dog thoughts were NOT like anything Laura would have ever imagined. Can you imagine YOUR dog transmitting thoughts directly into YOUR brain? It could happen, you know. The World, According to a Very Strange Dog Soon Laura realized she was having an adventure no one else had ever had. She was getting crazy thoughts and crazierstories, from her DOG! Of all things. So . . . these books are the stories told by Perdita Whacknoodle. You've never read anything like it. This is Perdita's FIRST book, and it's packed with stories about her very odd, very large dog family-stories about her wacky uncles, aunts, cousins, grandpas, grandmas, and her dog mother. But most of Perdita's craziest, most exciting stories are about her father, an adventurous-and possibly lunatic-dog she calls "Par." Par is rarely home at the farm. Instead, he's out having BIG adventures, creating chaos and excitement in cities and towns all over the country. Wherever Par goes, the police, sheriff, dog-catchers, and school principals are right behind him--trying their best to catch him. To hear Perdita tell it, her scalawag father, Par, has AMAZING adventures. He steals a garbage truck, drives Farmer's tractor, tries again and again to perform on the school's stage, and quickly becomes the enemy of the pompous school principal, Mr. Wimpy. Par first meets Mr. Wimpy at the school's big Thanksgiving pageant in this book. And that's when their battles begin, and this first battle between Par and Wimpy ends with . . . the Turkey Snatch of Doom! You'll quickly see that when Par battles with Mr. Wimpy, it's always a night the town--and readers--will NEVER forget! Does Your Dog Think Like Perdita Whacknoodle? Could YOUR dog think like Perdita? Does YOUR dog have a secret life like Perdita's? Is that possible? Well . . . why not? Could YOUR dog have endless funny dog stories about his crazy family? Could YOUR dog steal an entire turkey right from the stage . . . in the middle of the big Thanksgiving pageant? Par did, and (if Perdita is telling the truth) he got away with it for a fine Thanksgiving feast. (Of course, Par had to eat fast since all the adults were looking for him. But Par invented the famous Snatch-and-Run technique, so quick chomps while running from the police is easy for him! One thing is sure: when you read Perdita's books for kids, you'll never, ever look at dogs the same way again. Because, you've NEVER met a dog like Perdita! If you just scroll up the page and click the BUY NOW button, you can be laughing at Perdita Whacknoodle's odd ideas in about two minutes. And since this is the first book in Perdita's series, it's very inexpensive--but the laughs are worth a lot! Why not enjoy a few extra laughs this very day? (This book was originally titled The Thanksgiving Pageant of Doom.)

Western Hostility to Islam and Prophecies of Turkish Doom

Western Hostility to Islam and Prophecies of Turkish Doom PDF Author: Kenneth Meyer Setton
Publisher: American Philosophical Society
ISBN: 9780871692016
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 92

Book Description
The tall tales of medieval pilgrims and the incitements of crusading preachers contributed their share to the hatred of Islam nurtured in most Christian hearts during the Middle Ages. Ridiculous legends grew up in the West relating to Mohammed, the stock in trade of preachers, who were always willing to inform their listeners about the origin of the Prophet and the nature of Islam. Pious Christians were usually assured that Mohammed had come to a bad end. Contents of this study: Early legends and prophecies; Christian hopes for the undoing of Islam; Bartholomaeus Georgievicz and the "Red Apple"; and Translations of the Koran and Increasing Tolerance of Islam. Illustrations.

Book Description
Excerpt from Kismet or the Doom of Turkey This little work was first issued in the autumn of last year (1853), when I humbly conceived that the costly and dangerous extremity of a war with Russia might yet be avoided; and that every effort, however weak, which tended to the preservation of peace, was praiseworthy in itself. I also considered it as a matter of the highest consequence that, if our Government were to go to war, with Turkey and France for allies, they should be warned beforehand what sort of allies the Turks were likely, or rather sure, to prove themselves. Doom's Caravan

Doom's Caravan PDF Author: Geoffrey Household

Category : Fiction

Book Description
The disappearance of a British intelligence agent at the height of World War II sparks a desperate manhunt through the treacherous shadows of a battle-scarred Middle East Oliver Enwin was a valuable member of the British intelligence community in the Middle East in those dark days at the onset of the Second World War. Talented enough and devious enough to make his mark, he rose to the rank of assistant defense security officer at Nazareth by 1941, entrusted with the choosing, running, and support of local assets. Then he vanished without a trace, leaving fear and turmoil in his wake and scores of unanswered questions. In a tightly closed desert world on the brink of chaos—an essential playing piece in the complex wartime strategies of Allies, Arabs, and Nazis—determining the motives and whereabouts of a British agent gone rogue and potentially traitorous might be the most impossible assignment of the entire Middle Eastern conflict . . . and quite possibly the most important. In the vein of works by John le Carré and Len Deighton, Doom’s Caravan is a masterful, ever-twisting tale of wartime espionage unfolding on a vivid and blood-stained canvas. Gripping, electrifying, evocative, and surprising at every turn, this is the work of a true twentieth-century master.

The Giaour — A Fragment of a Turkish Tale

The Giaour — A Fragment of a Turkish Tale PDF Author: Lord Byron
Publisher: DigiCat
ISBN:
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 52

Book Description
"Giaour" is an insulting Turkish term meaning infidel or non-believer that is related but not the same as the Arabic word "kafir." It is Byron's sole fragmented narrative poem, subtitled "A Fragment of a Turkish Tale." Byron created the narrative with three narrators, each with their unique take on the events. In vengeance, the giaour murders Hassan and then enters the convent in sorrow. The story's structure provides for a comparison of Christian and Muslim perspectives on love, death, and life after death. Lord Byron's poem The Giaour was initially published by John Murray and printed by Thomas Davison. It was the first in Lord Byron's series of Oriental romances. When Giaour was released, it proved a major hit, solidifying Byron's name both critically and economically.
