The Protocols of the wise men of Zion, most probably written by Sergiei Nilus, was "an antisemitic hoax purporting to describe a Jewish plan for global domination", first published in Russia in 1905, and widely republished in other languages in the early 20th century. In spite of its already being exposed as a hoax, Hitler and the Nazis publicized the text as if it were true. This volume is the "dramatic exposé", written as "a series of articles in The Times by its Constantinople reporter, Philip Graves, who discovered the plagiarism from the work of Maurice Joly", i.e. the "Dialogue aux enfers entre Machiavel et Montesquieu", an 1864 political satire.
