Book Description
It all started in the 1970s when my own children were on the threshold of adulthood. The Roving Roo adventures were created around 1989 after a trip to the USA, where my daughter introduced me to a mascot named Kirby Kangaroo. Swaggy Joe became the romantic character of my childhood—when itinerant workers still walked the roads. I have fond memories of some of them, notably an old timer of Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, named Brian Rice, who my Grandma Lyle employed in exchange for food and rudimentary accommodation in the back shed. Another was a chap named Ruben Webb, who my dad gave work to at our home. He worked well and then wandered his way. Great icons of honesty, integrity, and the freedom to live as they would were both of these men and others of their ilk. I recognize that the normal way of life for me as a child has slipped by as prosperity and technology altered what my grandchildren know as their way of life. I felt that it could assist the new generations if they could be given some insights into life as it once was before their time, albeit in romantic tales of the imagination. For me to express this, I found the lyric ballad came naturally to be the utility of sharing. Although untrained as a writer and communicator, the urge to share a little of “what was” or “maybe was” prompted this little booklet. I hope that the readers, those young and those not so, enjoy the unique sharing reading provides.

Where Roves the Mind, Whilst the Billy Boils

Where Roves the Mind, Whilst the Billy Boils PDF Author: Kg Lyle
Publisher: Balboa Press
ISBN: 1504307100
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 269

Book Description
In quiet times, a mind reflects upon the experiences time has given. Time spent by a solitary camp fire waiting for the water to boil is perfect for such reflections. They may be current. They may be historical. But they are as undisciplined as the smoke of the fire, the steam from the water rising randomly, driven by the breeze of emotion or the heat from those embers of life gone by. This is a collection of such reflections in verse.

Category : Juvenile Fiction

Pages : 209

Book Description
Willis Wilbur has the entire summer in front of him. So it's time to fulfill his destiny: becoming the neighborhood life coach. Nine-year-old Willis Wilbur had his summer figured out. He and his best friend, Shelley, were going to Band Camp, and he was going to learn how to play the sousaphone. Easy. Simple. A done deal. But when Shelley is whisked off to Hawaii for a summer with her family, Willis is left staring down the long, boring road of an empty summer. Or even worse--eight long weeks of Day Camp. So Willis decides to try something new. He's going to MAKE A DATE WITH DESTINY. And after spotting a flyer for a local business competition, he finds exactly what his true calling really is: becoming the Neighborhood Life Coach. A kid helping other kids with kids' problems. His niche, he discovers. And he was going to be great at it. The best at it. So good, that he was going to become wildly, ridiculously famous. All he needed were some clients... With gumption, tenacity, and many other buzzwords he finds in self-help business magazines, Willis dives bowtie-first into the entrepreneurial waters. But starting a business alone, especially without his best friend by his side, is tough work. And with neighborhood bullies getting in his way, a guinea pig client who's actually a guinea pig, and an annoyingly competent little sister asking for a raise, Willis has his work cut out for him. Funny, heartfelt, and overwhelmingly endearing, Willis Wilbur is here to make all of your (well, his) dreams come true. (For a small fee.)

Category : Boys
Languages : en
Pages : 525

Book Description
Daniel and Brandon appear to be a couple of average teens who like to read comic books, make movies with their camera, skate outside the local video shop with friends, and even play an elaborate version of hide-and-seek on the sprawling grounds of the botanical gardens after dark. But these two boys from Manchester, England, are anything but average teens. Best mates since they met on their first day of school in the States, they share not only an unbreakable bond but a secret destiny as well - a destiny that arrives, as if triggered by the hand of fate itself, when all-American jock and fellow classmate Cody is drawn into their circle. And as the fragile facade of boyhood innocence begins to crumble, a slumbering darkness stirs to fulfill a prophecy foretold long ago. What begins as a simple coming-of-age story gradually builds into an adventure of epic proportion as past and present intertwine and the tension mounts to a stunning climax that will leave you breathless and pondering the true nature of heroism, friendship, sacrifice, and love long after the final page has been turned. Where innocence ends, legend begins.

Running the Light

Running the Light PDF Author: Sam Tallent
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 0593978889
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
A bona fide “instant classic” (Doug Stanhope) novel that tells the story of a road comic crashing and burning by acclaimed comedian Sam Tallent Billy Ray Schafer stepped off the plane in Amarillo, Texas, with twenty-six hundred dollars tucked down the leg of his black ostrich-skin cowboy boot. He walked to baggage claim slowly, jelly-legged and nearing lucidity, coming out from under the Xanax he snorted before the flight. Debauched, divorced, and courting death, Billy Ray Schafer is a comedian who has forgotten how to laugh. Over the course of seven spun-out days across the American Southwest, he travels from hell gig to hell gig in search of a reason to keep living in this bleak and violent glimpse into the psyche of a thoroughly ruined man. Ex-inmate, ex-husband, ex-father—comedian is the only title Schafer has left. Trapped in the wreckage of his wasted career, Billy Ray knows the answer to the question: What happens when opportunity doesn't come—or worse—it comes and goes? “In vivid, electric sentences that read like cinematic tracking shots,” (Denver Post) Tallent hurls you into an absolute mess of a man’s life as we search for the mercy he does not want.
