(1) The gravitational force on the surface of the Moon is only one-sixth of that on the Earth. (2) There is no gas on the Moon. The latter aspect means that any water brought there would evaporate and disappear immediately, hence powders on the Moon will always be perfect1y dry so that cohesion between the separate partieles due to liquid bridges will be zero.

The thin layer wicking technique was used for surface energy estimation, and the avalanching behavior of powders was studied to evaluate dynamic powder flow behavior. Avalanching flow behavior for different particle sizes and relative humidities was studied on an avalanching equipment. The tests established the presence of fractal plots in the avalanching behavior. The powders having fines showed presence of more than one slope in the fractal plots. Based on fractal plot studies, powders were found to less free flowing with an increase in humidity and fines content. Larger monosized particles were found to be more free flowing as compared to fine particles.
