Book Description
Detailed measurements of turbulent boundary layer velocity profiles and shear stress distributions on three slender bodies of revolution in incompressible flow are presented. Comparison of the results with those found in two-dimensional flows indicates no appreciable influence of lateral curvature on the Law of the Wall or use of H as a shape parameter for the outer region of the velocity profile except where the boundary layer thickness exceeds body radius. Values of wall shear stress determined by the method of Clauser-Coles are in excellent agreement with values measured using a shear stress pitot tube according to the method of Preston, while those predicted by the LudwiegTillmann formula are greater than measured values in the adverse pressure gradient regions of the flows. Disturbing the turbulent layer at transition by blowing through the surface leads to an increase in theta and a reduction in H which delays separation slightly when compared with the undisturbed layer. Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers PDF Author: Tuncer Cebeci
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0323151051
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 423

Book Description
Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Separation of Flow

Separation of Flow PDF Author: Paul K. Chang
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483181286
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 800

Book Description
Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.
