Book Description
Excerpt from Iona: And Other Verses A few of the pieces in this little volume were published anonymously many years ago, and now appear with more or less of alteration. Three others are included in the writer's Private Prayers for a Week. The 'Litany of the Resurrection, ' the 'Hymn on the Name of Jesus, ' and the 'Hymn for a Church of St. Augustine, ' were contributed for local Church use; and the 'Hymn before Ordination' was written at the kind request of the late deeply lamented Bishop of Ely. The lines on 'Truro Cathedral in 1880' appeared in the Guardian of that year. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Wee Book of Iona Poems

Wee Book of Iona Poems PDF Author: Kenneth Steven
Publisher: Wild Goose Publications
ISBN: 1849524351
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 80

Book Description
These haiku-like poems arise out of Kenneth Steven's perception of the Iona landscape. They have the sense of wonder, seeing, and being in the moment that many of us experience when spending time on this jewel-like island in a turquoise sea. Iona has been Kenneth's spiritual home since his childhood. He even learned to walk on one of the island's beaches. He sometimes fears that there may be no more hidden corners to find, but there always are. His poetry collection 'Iona' - first published in 2000 - remains one of his best-known books, although he is also a writer of novels, short stories and children's books.

Book Description
"Steven has an Irish monk’s attentiveness to the fragility, mystery, and hidden beauties of things." —Peter Leithart, First Things The book is a gathering together of all of Kenneth Steven’s poems concerning the island of Iona through the years. These comprise poems that have been published in journals both at home and abroad, and broadcast on BBC Radio. A lengthy introduction tells the story of the forging of those first links with Iona, and those that have come through adult years. This is a book both for those who know and love the island, and for those who may yearn to visit but have not yet had the chance. It’s essentially a love song to a precious and an extraordinary place that has been the author’s spiritual home from earliest childhood days.
