Scenario Studies for the Rural Environment
Author: Job F.Th. Schoute
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401104417
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 709
Book Description
Rural areas need to fulfil a large variety of functions and to accommodate many activities. The complexity of the problems, limited funds, and the almost irreversible character of some interventions result in a compelling need to evaluate ex ante the effects of alternative solutions for designation of land, for measures to develop infrastructure, and for soil and water management. Scenario studies are undertaken to help manage the complexity, to place bounds on uncertainties, and to create new visions. After an overview of the nature, variety and scope of scenario studies, the book illuminates various European examples and reviews, under the following headings: regional soil and water management; nature development and landscape quality; rural planning and the future of regions.

The effects of films on destination image and tourists’ decision making process
Author: Bernadette Walcher
Publisher: GRIN Verlag
ISBN: 3668337616
Category : Travel
Languages : en
Pages : 53
Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Tourism - Miscellaneous, grade: 1,50, Management Center Innsbruck, language: English, abstract: Homo Sapiens is the story telling animal and for more than 100 years, it is film, more than any other medium, which has taken us on journeys on which we are temporarily drawn into a fictional story. Although the main purpose of a film is not to persuade the audience to travel to a certain place presented in a movie, location placement may stimulate the travel demand. Due to intangibility a main characteristic of services tourists are often faced with uncertainty during their decision making process. Tourism researchers provided empirical proof that movies and television series may help to reduce perceived risks, enhance familiarity and lead to a favourable image formation in consumers’ minds. Epic story telling can be seen as a main characteristic that unites the film and tourism industry, which both make a living from creating experiences. Within the latter destination image is of paramount importance because it fundamentally affects tourists’ decision making process in which emotions play an essential role. Films and television series are said to communicate emotions and viewers often identify themselves with the stories and places depicted in the movie. Movies can be seen as an effective marketing tool that can lead to high market penetration without the “hard sell” impressions of usual promotional activities. Furthermore films serve as cultural ambassadors that present the uniqueness of a place. Therefore tourism organisations often go into partnership with the film industry and agree to host film crews in order to leverage the effects of film-induced tourism

Marketing Tourism Places (RLE Tourism)
Author: Gregory Ashworth
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1135077223
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 314
Book Description
Tourism is well established as an important part of the new service economy, and the rewards it offers have stimulated intense competition in the tourism industry. Many destinations compete to attract potential tourists, each place having to work hard to distinguish itself from rivals offering similar or alternative attractions. This book, originally published in 1990, explores how destinations invest increasing amounts of time and money into developing and promoting their 'products'. The contributors, from both academic institutes and the tourism industry, provide a multidisciplinary and professional analysis of what can be done to sell tourism places. Using both theoretical and empirical approaches, they give examples from different areas of the industry and evaluate different strategies a destination can adopt for maintaining and increasing its market share. All the contributors emphasize that selling tourism places must be a dynamic activity in which the place products are constantly monitored, so that they can be revitalized, repositioned, or renewed in the market context.
