An Investigation of Students with Active FFA Careers and Their Choice of Major Within the College of Agriculture
Author: Jessica Courtney Curry
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Agricultural education
Languages : en
Pages : 120
Book Description
This study examined the impact of FFA activity on choice of major in Tarleton State University’s College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. A survey instrument was created using the Texas FFA Golden Horizon Award Application as a model to list and weight all possible FFA activities for a cumulative FFA Activity Score. The survey included demographic items as well. There was a statistically significant relationship between the FFA Activity Score and choice of major. Students more involved in FFA were more likely to choose a major in the department of Agricultural and Consumer Sciences than in the departments of Animal Science or Wildlife, Sustainability, and Ecosystem Sciences. This study recommends that the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences expand their recruitment of FFA members at the secondary level through miscellaneous FFA events.
