This qualitative study was conducted to ascertain teacher perceptions regarding factors that influence school climate of a charter school, the impact of climate on overall job satisfaction at a charter school, and the impact of a charter school's closing on climate. The study involved 32 teachers of grades five through twelve of a charter school in central Pennsylvania. The data of the study were collected through the use of an online survey that included Likert-scale statements and open-ended questions. One-to-one interviews were conducted with five participants in order to gain greater insight into teacher perceptions regarding school climate of a charter school. The data revealed relationships between teachers and between teachers and students to be a significant factor effecting school climate. Additionally, the data revealed some teachers of the charter school were satisfied with their jobs while others were dissatisfied. Finally, it was discovered that the news of the closing of the charter school had a substantial effect on the climate of the charter school.

School climate affects job satisfaction in rural school districts. Previous studies have shown that job satisfaction leads to increased teacher retention and lower turnover. Lower teacher turnover has been associated with increased student achievement. The findings in this research of a rural school district support previous research studies that had been completed in larger urban settings linking these studies to a broader implementation of these findings to target a positive school climate. From this study, there is an identified link between school climate and job satisfaction. If a teacher's perception of school climate is positive, they will also perceive their job satisfaction to be higher. Teachers involved within this study report their job satisfaction within a half a point of their school climate perceptions on average. Schools can predict the overall job satisfaction of its teachers by their perceptions of school climate. Additionally, from this research, it is important for districts to be able to understand areas of growth within their school climate to drive increased teacher job satisfaction. With increasing levels of teachers leaving the profession facing districts, this trend can be reversed by working to improve school climate and job satisfaction.

The purpose of this study was to determine to what extent, if any, does shared decision making exist within the confines of a school's culture. The study looks at three school districts in the Mid South. Two rural school districts and one suburban school district were incorporated in the study.The research of this study was concerned with determining the amount of input teachers prefer in secondary schools as compared to the amount of input teachers are allowed by administration. To make this comparison, a survey was designed with 38 questions from each of the six categories requesting a response on how much input a teacher currently has versus how much input a teacher would like to have in five particular areas: a) Instructional Time;b) Committee Formation; c) Meetings; d) School Procedures; and e) Instruction; teachers were also asked about organizational culture and job satisfaction. The findings showed significant differences in the amount of input teachers preferred in secondary schools as compared to the actual amount of input allowed by school administration in the various categories. Teachers have relatively less input over when they meet and about the content of the meetings when compared to some other areas. four areas in which teachers would like to have more input were teaching duties, disciplinary and student referral procedures, and also all matters related to the quality of instruction. A relationship existed between school culture and job satisfaction. The correlation observed between culture and job satisfaction suggests that the relationship between them is indirect with job satisfaction working through culture. Overall, shared decision making does exist within the confines of the school culture, but the amount of teacher input varies.
