The COVID-19 pandemic shifted employees to a remote setting. This study aims to understand the effects of this unique incident on employees by exploring the relationship between remote work and employee burnout. The study also addresses the belief that the shift to remote work disproportionately affected groups during the pandemic by analyzing the effect of gender and age on burnout. Data was collected through the distribution of an online-survey measuring burnout, supervisor support, workload, role clarity, workplace satisfaction, work-life balance, engagement, career opportunities and openness to change. The study did not conclude any significant relationships between remote work, burnout and gender and age. However, the results are trending in the direction of increased burnout while working remotely and higher levels of burnout experienced by women and younger workers. This study provides organizations insight into the employee response to working remotely and discrepancies amongst groups.
