Book Description
Necros, the most rebellious of the vampir kings, has carried a burning hatred for the one who forced him into this undead existence centuries ago. Abused, betrayed, cheated, he trusts none of any species, especially Guin, a dethroned mortal queen who appears out of nowhere and feeds his paranoia, and his darkest fantasies. At best she attempts to control him, at worst she tries to kill him. For some reason he does not understand, Necros is compelled to let her live. But he believes she is manipulative, and a liar; Guin sees him as brutal, stubborn, impossible! Encounters turn ugly as violence, bitterness and haunting memories drive both of them. Guin has her own agendas, and the more she struggles to actualize them, the further away her goals recede. A few vampirii endeavor to build a bridge between the two combatants, but others with sinister plans are bent on hindering a truce. This downward-spiralling dynamic reels towards a dire conclusion that neither Necros nor Guin seem able to halt. Savagery of the Rebel King—Vol 4 in the exciting Thrones of Blood series—is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride in a plot that twists and turns and threatens to spin out of control. Book Description
If you’re a Christian, you know that Jesus took the sin of all mankind upon Himself, to offer redemption and everlasting life to those who believe in Him. But did you know that in His own time, the Jews expected the Messiah to be a military leader who would liberate them from Rome? Our current understanding of Jesus and His role was very different from that of His contemporaries and the first disciples. This accessible, compulsively readable book tells the story of Jesus’ life with different twists. You’ll be enthralled by Jesus’ teachings, appreciate the significance of His power to perform miracles, and dig deeper into the meaning of some of His best-known parables. You’ll see the connections between Jesus and the prophecies of the Old Testament. You’ll walk alongside His first disciples and become entangled in the plot that led to His arrest, trial, and death. But most of all, you’ll see that although Jesus was obedient to His father in heaven, he bucked convention in his life on Earth—from the Romans and the Sanhedrin to everyday Jews and sometimes even His close friends, Jesus was perceived as a rebel who broke new ground in faith and action. Whether you are new to your faith journey or revisiting a well-loved road, this compelling guide to Jesus’ life and times is the extra insight you need to spark your soul.

Rebel King

Rebel King PDF Author: Tom Bower
Publisher: Open Road Media
ISBN: 1504084764
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 429

Book Description
This unauthorized biography of King Charles III follows his twenty-year struggle with his public image in the wake of Diana’s death. Numerous challenges face King Charles III as he succeeds his mother to the throne of the United Kingdom. While Elizabeth II had a long history of uniting her people, Charles has always been less popular and often divisive. Following Princess Diana’s death, his approval rating plummeted to four percent—the lowest for any royal in recent times. Charles’s public support improved following his marriage to Camilla, but how was he able to turn things around? And what sort of monarch will he be? In Rebel King, investigative journalist and historian Tom Bower chronicles two dramatic decades of King Charles’s life. He examines Charles’s battle for rehabilitation after Diana’s death and his refusal to obey the public’s expectations of a future king. This book gathers testimonies from more than 120 individuals, many of whom served the royals for long periods and with great distinction. The result reveals dramatic secrets and offers an unrivalled, intimate portrait of the man, the heir, and the making of a king. Previously published as Rebel Prince. Praise for Rebel King “A devastating book by Britain’s top investigative author.” —Daily Mail “Explosive . . . delves inside the bizarre, ultra luxury world of Prince Charles.” —The Sun “There is more than enough carping, cosseting and cattiness here to satisfy any appetite for royal intrigue.” —The Sunday Times

Buddhism and Violence

Buddhism and Violence PDF Author: Vladimir Tikhonov
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1136277072
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 278

Book Description
It is generally accepted in the West that Buddhism is a ‘peaceful’ religion. The Western public tends to assume that the doctrinal rejection of violence in Buddhism would make Buddhist pacifists, and often expects Buddhist societies or individual Asian Buddhists to conform to the modern Western standards of ‘peaceful’ behavior. This stereotype – which may well be termed ‘positive Orientalism,’ since it is based on assumption that an ‘Oriental’ religion would be more faithful to its original non-violent teachings than Western Christianity – has been periodically challenged by enthusiastic acquiescence by monastic Buddhism to the most brutal sorts of warfare. This volume demolishes this stereotype, and produces instead a coherent, nuanced account on the modern Buddhist attitudes towards violence and warfare, which take into consideration both doctrinal logic of Buddhism and the socio-political situation in Asian Buddhist societies. The chapters in this book offer a deeper analysis of ‘Buddhist militarism’ and Buddhist attitudes towards violence than previous volumes, grounded in an awareness of Buddhist doctrines and the recent history of nationalism, as well as the role Buddhism plays in constructions of national identity. The international team of contributors includes scholars from Thailand, Japan, and Korea.
