Book Description
The Prophet and the President In the time of a crumbling economy, a nonexistent morality, and human frailty, what we need is a man, a man with God's plan. In times past, ... Jehovah God has not been silent. He has always had a man standing in the shadow of history, a man with His plan. We have heard President Obama's plan, we have heard from the Congress and the Senate. Now it is time to hear from Heaven, and we need a Word from God. Rev. Stephen Esele has written not only a timely book, but a prophetic one. Bishop Ronald L. Bailey, Senior Pastor, Love Gospel Assembly Rev. Stephen Esele is an ordained Prophet/Evangelist Minister of the Gospel, and has been in full-time ministry for over 15 years. Joseph Smith for President

Joseph Smith for President PDF Author: Spencer W. McBride
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0190909412
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 297

Book Description
"In 1844, Joseph Smith, the controversial founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had amassed a national following of some 25,000 believers-and a militia of some 2,500 men. In this year, his priority was protecting the lives and civil rights of his people. Having failed to win the support of any of the presidential contenders for these efforts, Smith launched his own renegade campaign for the White House, one that would end with his assassination at the hands of an angry mob. Smith ran on a platform that called for the total abolition of slavery, the closure of the country's penitentiaries, the reestablishment of a national bank to stabilize the economy, and most importantly an expansion of protections for religious minorities. Spencer W. McBride tells the story of Smith's quixotic but consequential run for the White House and shows how his calls for religious freedom helped to shape the American political system we know today"--

Jesus for President

Jesus for President PDF Author: Shane Claiborne
Publisher: Harper Collins
ISBN: 0310862701
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 370

Book Description
Jesus for President is a radical manifesto to awaken the Christian political imagination, reminding us that our ultimate hope lies not in partisan political options but in Jesus and the incarnation of the peculiar politic of the church as a people 'set apart' from this world. In what can be termed lyrical theology, Jesus for President poetically weaves together words and images to sing (rather than dictate) its message. It is a collaboration of Shane Claiborne's writing and stories, Chris Haw's reflections and research, and Chico Fajardo-Heflin's art and design. Drawing upon the work of biblical theologians, the lessons of church history, and the examples of modern-day saints and ordinary radicals, Jesus for President stirs the imagination of what the Church could look like if it placed its faith in Jesus instead of Caesar. A fresh look at Christianity and empire, Jesus for President transcends questions of 'Should I vote or not?' and 'Which candidate?' by thinking creatively about the fundamental issues of faith and allegiance. It's written for those who seek to follow Jesus, rediscover the spirit of the early church, and incarnate the kingdom of God.
