Book Description
2Vlanuals of mineral dressing or more precisely those of comminution-classifi cation treat in particular the mechanics of the machines, and generally their handling. In this way the plant engineer becomes acquainted with the equip ment but is given no help in learning something of the processes taking place in the material to be comminuted even though the purpose of the operation is to enhance wanted and to avoid unwanted physical or physico-chemical processes. Neglecting the description or representation of generally used and well known equipment the object of this monograph is to supply information on the processes taking place in grinding installations. It explains the sometimes complicated phemonena by applying quite simple means; it requires only an elementary knowledge of mathematics, mechanics and physical chemistry. The ideas are applicable to the grinding of all brittle raw materials or semi finished industrial products. The special problems of cement grinding and thm;e of hall mills are explained in more detail; in cement grinding we have to meet special requirements with regard to ball mills apart from other con siderations -, since these now demand the greatest overall energy consumption. Currently disputed problems are dealt with, and naturally the views of the author are given in detail, but contrary views are also mentioned and the ample list of references ensures that these opposing views can be considered.

Handbook of Ceramics Grinding and Polishing
Author: Ioan D. Marinescu
Publisher: William Andrew
ISBN: 1455778591
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 501
Book Description
Handbook of Ceramics Grinding and Polishing meets the growing need in manufacturing industries for a clear understanding of the latest techniques in ceramics processing. The properties of ceramics make them very useful as components—they withstand high temperatures and are durable, resistant to wear, chemical degradation, and light. In recent years the use of ceramics has been expanding, with applications in most industry sectors that use machined parts, especially where corrosion-resistance is required, and in high temperature environments. However, they are challenging to produce and their use in high-precision manufacturing often requires adjustments to be made at the micro and nano scale. This book helps ceramics component producers to do cost-effective, highly precise machining. It provides a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of ceramics—their properties and characteristics—and of the abrasive processes used to manipulate their final shape as well as the test procedures vital for success. The second edition has been updated throughout, with the latest developments in technologies, techniques, and materials. The practical nature of the book has also been enhanced; numerous case studies illustrating how manufacturing (machining) problems have been handled are complemented by a highly practical new chapter on the selection and efficient use of machine tools. - Provides readers with experience-based insights into complex and expensive processes, leading to improved quality control, lower failure rates, and cost savings - Covers the fundamentals of ceramics side-by-side with processing issues and machinery selection, making this book an invaluable guide for downstream sectors evaluating the use of ceramics, as well as those involved in the manufacturing of structural ceramics - Numerous case studies from a wide range of applications (automotive, aerospace, electronics, medical devices)

Surface Phenomena in Metallurgical Processes
Author: A. I. Belyaev
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1475700768
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 235
Book Description
Surface phenomena in the field of high-temperature processes are attracting ever increasing attention on the part of scientific workers and engineers. In this field, many questions of applied science cannot properly be solved without taking into account the characteristics caused by surface phenomena at the various interfaces. The importance of surface phenomena in the pyrometallurgy of nonferrous and ferrous metals was convincingly demonstrated at a scientific conference on this problem held in Moscow towards the end of 1961. The English translation of the transactions of this conference, "Surface Phenomena in Metallurgical Processes, .. and its publication in the USA will ena ble American scientists and engineers working in the field of surface phenomena and metallurgy to acquaint themselves with the work of Russian investigators in this inter esting field of physical chemistry and the theory of metallurgical processes. In the Soviet Union, important groups of scientists in Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Sverdlovsk. and other cities are engaged in the study of surface phenomena as applied to the different branches of metallurgy. We trust that the publication of the American edition of the book "Surface Phenomena in Metallurgical Processes" will help to strengthen the scientific bonds between Soviet and American scientists.
