Excerpt from The Principal Uses of the Sixteen Most Important and Fourteen Supplementary Homoeopathic Medicines It is often remarked that the Domestic Works on Homœopatliy seem to contain every phase and symptom of disease, except the particular one which it is required to treat, and from the plan upon which most of these Domestic Treatises are written, it is necessarily difficult to embrace many of those features of disease which commonly arise, without being very lengthy and therefore perplexing, in the directions given. With a view of obviating this difficulty, and of rendering this Work comprehensive and clear, it has been formed upon the plan adopted in Physicians' Manuals; and as this plan differs essentially from that of the ordinary Domestic Works, the following explanation as to the proper application of Homœopathic medicines should be clearly understood: - Under Homœopathy, the use of every medicine is definite; each remedy is adapted to remove certain symptoms only, of disease: that is, a medicine will cure some symptoms of disease of the head, but not others; some symptoms of disease of the eyes, but not others; and so on with each part of the body, removing and curing certain symptoms for which it alone is adapted; and these symptoms being ascertained, indicate when it, as a remedy, is required, and form the basis of all Homœopathic practice.
