Donald G. Bloesch

Donald G. Bloesch PDF Author: Paul Maher
Publisher: Scarecrow Press
ISBN: 9780810859890
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 234

Book Description
Donald G. Bloesch is among the most important American theologians of the 20th and early 21st centuries. He calls himself a "catholic evangelical" and indeed, his appeal is as wide as those terms imply. His work has appeared in Catholic religious periodicals as well as many varieties of Protestant publications, both mainstream and lesser known. As a prolific author, Bloesch's writing is scattered across a large number of journals, many of which are difficult to access, and reviews of his work appear in an even larger range of forums. Donald G. Bloesch: A Research Bibliography collocates as many relevant resources on Bloesch's writing as possible. The book provides a chronological listing and description of each work written by Bloesch, as well as reviews of Bloesch's writing. Each entry gives the title, publication details, and notes about the relationship of the item described to other publications. Several indexes are also included, giving a checklist of books by Bloesch, a checklist of books to which Bloesch has contributed, and a list of book reviews that Bloesch has written about other authors. Finally, there is an alphabetical index of titles, names, and periodicals cited in the bibliography, making this the most comprehensive resource available on Bloesch.

Category : Religion
Languages : en

Book Description
Letty M. Russell's Household of Freedom addresses concerns important to all those struggling with issues of authority and equality in the church. Known for her work in feminist and liberation theologies, Russell now looks at the question of authority: that is, legitimate power in the context of Christianity. She uses the image of community, God's household of freedom, to describe ways in which human beings can better live and work together in faith.

Volume 19, Tome II: Kierkegaard Bibliography

Volume 19, Tome II: Kierkegaard Bibliography PDF Author: Peter Šajda
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1351653733
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 334

Book Description
The long tradition of Kierkegaard studies has made it impossible for individual scholars to have a complete overview of the vast field of Kierkegaard research. The large and ever increasing number of publications on Kierkegaard in the languages of the world can be simply bewildering even for experienced scholars. The present work constitutes a systematic bibliography which aims to help students and researchers navigate the seemingly endless mass of publications. The volume is divided into two large sections. Part I, which covers Tomes I-V, is dedicated to individual bibliographies organized according to specific language. This includes extensive bibliographies of works on Kierkegaard in some 41 different languages. Part II, which covers Tomes VI-VII, is dedicated to shorter, individual bibliographies organized according to specific figures who are in some way relevant for Kierkegaard. The goal has been to create the most exhaustive bibliography of Kierkegaard literature possible, and thus the bibliography is not limited to any specific time period but instead spans the entire history of Kierkegaard studies.

Reflecting Black

Reflecting Black PDF Author: Michael Eric Dyson
Publisher: U of Minnesota Press
ISBN: 0816621438
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 382

Book Description
From rap music to preaching, from Toni Morrison to Leonard Jeffries, from Michael Jackson to Michael Jordan, "Reflecting Black" explores the varied and complex dimensions of African-American culture. Through personal reflection, expository journalism, scholarly investigation, and even a sermon, Michael Eric Dyson grapples with and celebrates the diverse cultural expressions of contemporary black intellectuals, athletes, musicians, scholars, ministers, politicians, and activists, while at the same time probing and exposing the social and political realities of black cultural production. "Reflecting Black" investigates contemporary gospel music, the films of Spike Lee and John Singleton, contemporary grass roots leadership, Malcolm X, the books about the nature of the heroism of Martin Luther King, and the controversies arising from the Central Park jogger case. Pushing beyond insular debates about "positive" and "negative" treatments of black life, Dyson's work is both appreciative and critical in its assessment of the insights and blindnesses, as well as the strengths and weaknesses, of contemporary black culture. Michael Eric Dyson won the 1992 National Magazine Award for Black Journalists. His writing has appeared in many books, journals, newspapers and magazines. This book is intended for academics in the fields of cultural studies, African-American studies and American studies.

Saving Sinners, even Moslems

Saving Sinners, even Moslems PDF Author: Jerzy Zdanowski
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1527518442
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 278

Book Description
This book investigates the Mission of the Reformed Church in America sent to Arabia in 1889 to preach the Gospel, and which operated in the Persian Gulf until 1973. It also explores the various cultural encounters between missionaries and Muslims, and discusses conversion and the place of Islam in the Protestant eschatology. It maintains that John G. Lansing from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary, New Jersey, who founded the Arabian Mission, deliberately dedicated the Mission to “direct Muslim evangelism”. In terms of premillennialism, Lansing “moved” Islam into the very centre of the theological discourse, and presented the evangelization of Muslims as critical for Christ’s Second Coming. This made the Arabian Mission unique among the American Protestant Missions, and placed the Church and missionaries between religious pluralism and the obligations of the Great Commission.

The Future of Protestant Worship

The Future of Protestant Worship PDF Author: Ronald P. Byars
Publisher: Westminster John Knox Press
ISBN: 9780664225728
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 148

Book Description
Over the past several years, churches have engaged in an ongoing debate between two different styles of worship--"traditional" and "contemporary." Here, Ronald Byars argues that many of the differences between the two styles are superficial. Authentic worship, being wholly theocentric, can and must be both responsive to contemporary culture and grounded in history and tradition. Thus, rather than merely trying to please their members, congregations must focus on exploring worship that is biblical, honors our communion with the saints, and takes seriously the ways that our culture is reshaping us. He concludes with a description of an authentic, postmodern Protestant worship service.
