The Price of Honesty

The Price of Honesty PDF Author: Robert Yugovich
Publisher: Author House
ISBN: 1467890774
Category : True Crime
Languages : en
Pages : 281

Book Description
It turned out that Robert Yugovich had to leave the gang of which he was a key part for many years. He was aware of the gravity of his actions and knew that the gang would not sit idly by and overlook the fact that he had broken the unwritten rules of the mafia. He had two choices: killing his boss his only friend still alive or fleeing with his family. Trusting the laws of the European Union, the orderliness of democracy, and the respect of human rights and dignity, under a false name he sought refuge in one of the member states of the European Union, with support from the witness protection program. He soon realized that what lied ahead of him was not what he had expected. It was doubly true for Hungary: anything could happen. Robert realized that not only the Serb mafia but the biased, unfair national justice system was after his skin. Neither the former nor the latter would refrain from hurting him without a second thought for his family. He had no other choice but to survive whatever may come and keep fighting, even if the face of hope slowly ebbed away. He didnt believe in miracles, but the real loser was the one that did not even try to win. The fight for survival, dignity, and justice still continues to this day. The reason he decided to write this book was to help others learn from his mistakes. The other reason was personal. He wanted to put reality on paper because it was disgusting how neither the truth nor reality was needed to judge or to condemn someone. Just as there were good cops, there were good criminals too and there were brutal people in the establishment as well. Truth is always where the power is.

Honesty

Honesty PDF Author: Christian B. Miller
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0197567495
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 337

Book Description
"Honesty is clearly an important virtue. Parents want to develop it in their children. Close relationships typically depend upon it. Employers value it in their employees. Yet philosophers have said almost nothing about the virtue of honesty in the past fifty years. This book aims to draw attention to this surprisingly neglected virtue. Part One looks at the concept of honesty. It takes up questions such as what does honesty involve, what are the motives of an honest person, how does practical wisdom relate to honesty, and is there anything that connects all the different sides of honesty, including not lying, not stealing, not breaking promises, not misleading others, and not cheating. A central idea is that the honest person reliably does not intentionally distort the facts as she takes them to be. Part Two looks at the empirical psychology of honesty. It takes up the question of whether most people are honest, dishonest, or somewhere in-between. Drawing extensively on recent studies of cheating and lying in particular, the emerging model ends up implying that most of us have a long way to go to reach an honest character"--

Would I Lie to You?

Would I Lie to You? PDF Author: Judi Ketteler
Publisher: Citadel
ISBN: 0806540095
Category : Self-Help
Languages : en
Pages : 273

Book Description
What would it mean to commit to unconditional honesty and what impact might that have on our lives? Inspired by her popular New York Times article, "How Honesty Could Make You Happier," award-winning journalist Judi Ketteler takes a deep dive into the hard truths about honesty, from the personal to the political... We're incensed by politicians who lie and corporations that cheat, but when it comes to our own honesty choices, we often barely notice. So, what happens when we do notice? Judi Ketteler thought of herself as an honest person. And yet, she knew it wasn't the whole story... How often was Judi engaging in the same dishonest behavior she was condemning in others? To answer that question, she started her "Honesty Journal," and set out to confront her perennial fear of speaking the truth in a range of situations--including with friends, her kids, and even inside her complicated marriage. The result is a timely consideration of the joys and pains of truth in a world that seems committed to lying.

Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 304

Book Description
Dishonesty does not pay, and in the wake of headlines involving the likes of Enron, WorldCom and Tyco, organizations need to establish ways of maintaining cultures where open, honest communication is the norm. This handbook demonstrates how readers can maintain an environment in which employees speak their mind without fearing reprisal, and truthfulness and accountability show themselves for what they are: business assets. The authors offer a toolbox of strategies that can be used to improve an organization's ability to confront and resolve difficult issues. Provocative and sensitive issues are also addressed, including dealing with a difficult or even dishonest boss, "agreeing to disagree", and accepting criticism without becoming defensive. Many examples, both positive and negative, are given, along with scenarios, anecdotes and quotations.
