Carbide, Nitride and Boride Materials Synthesis and Processing
Author: A.W. Weimer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400900716
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 675
Book Description
Carbide, Nitride and Boride Materials Synthesis and Processing is a major reference text addressing methods for the synthesis of non-oxides. Each chapter has been written by an expert practising in the subject area, affiliated with industry, academia or government research, thus providing a broad perspective of information for the reader. The subject matter ranges from materials properties and applications to methods of synthesis including pre- and post-synthesis processing. Although most of the text is concerned with the synthesis of powders, chapters are included for other materials such as whiskers, platelets, fibres and coatings. Carbide, Nitride and Boride Materials Synthesis and Processing is a comprehensive overview of the subject and is suitable for practitioners in the industry as well as those looking for an introduction to the field. It will be of interest to chemical, mechanical and ceramic engineers, materials scientists and chemists in both university and industrial environments working on or with refractory carbides, nitrides and borides.

Handbook of Solid State Chemistry, 6 Volume Set
Author: Richard Dronskowski
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527325875
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 3912
Book Description
This most comprehensive and unrivaled compendium in the field provides an up-to-date account of the chemistry of solids, nanoparticles and hybrid materials. Following a valuable introductory chapter reviewing important synthesis techniques, the handbook presents a series of contributions by about 150 international leading experts -- the "Who's Who" of solid state science. Clearly structured, in six volumes it collates the knowledge available on solid state chemistry, starting from the synthesis, and modern methods of structure determination. Understanding and measuring the physical properties of bulk solids and the theoretical basis of modern computational treatments of solids are given ample space, as are such modern trends as nanoparticles, surface properties and heterogeneous catalysis. Emphasis is placed throughout not only on the design and structure of solids but also on practical applications of these novel materials in real chemical situations.

The Single Crystal Synthesis and Some Properties of Aluminum Nitride
Author: Cortland O. Dugger
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aluminum compounds
Languages : en
Pages : 76
Book Description
This final report, which covers the period from March 1972 to 30 June 1975, discusses some conditions for the synthesis of aluminum nitride (AIN) single crystals from solution. The solvent systems used are unique and novel. The average sized, water-white, bipyramidal AIN single crystals reproducibly grown from solution only were 1.1 mm long X 0.3 mm wide. The average sized, AIN single crystals grown from a combined solution-vapor reaction technique were 4mm long X 3 mm wide X 2mm thick. The in-house quantitative evaluation of the crystals was restricted to Laue patterns and emission spectrometry only. In Appendices A, B, C, and D, general discussions of solution growth, other AIN growth methods, some properties of AIN, and a very brief discussion of the newly emerging surface acoustic wave (SAW) device technology and why the use of AIN is considered a good electro-acoutic material in SAW devices are presented. (Author).
