Book Description
Real Hope in the Midst of a Culture Gone Awry! Yes, we live in this kind of culture and world. However, it is clear in the Bible that the more we pursue the knowledge of God, as defined and described in Scripture, and the more we are devoted to him, the more he will work in us and through us during the perilous times in which we live. Therefore, in thinking about the extraordinary impact biblical truth can have on our society, this book focuses on three vitally important areas in the Bible: how God reveals his existence through nature and his Word, how he discloses his character through his attributes and promises, and how he calls his people to seek the knowledge of himself through the fear of the Lord and the bearing of his image. Thus, the purpose of this book is to lead believers into a deeper understanding of what God is like, a deeper understanding of what he has promised to those who know him, and a deeper understanding of the unshakable hope and strong encouragement we have in God's Word as we live in a confused and deteriorating culture. Rather than simply decrying the devastating changes in our nation and world, this book clearly proclaims the hope that is ours in the very nature and character of God himself, the identity and security believers have in Christ, and the biblical guidance we need in order to be salt and light in our generation. A God-centered, truth-loving, Christ-exalting approach to life changes everything!

Truth Speaks to Power

Truth Speaks to Power PDF Author: Walter Brueggemann
Publisher: Westminster John Knox Press
ISBN: 0664239145
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 178

Book Description
World-renowned biblical interpreter Walter Brueggemann invites readers to take a closer look at the subversive messages found within the Old Testament. Brueggemann asserts that the Bible presents a "sustained contestation" over truth, in which established institutions of power do not always prevail. But this is not always obvious at first glance. A closer look reveals that the text actually contradicts the apparent meaning of an innocent, face-value reading. Brueggemann invites the reader into this thick complexity of the textual reading, where the authority of power is undermined in cunning and compelling ways. He insists that we are--as readers and interpreters--always contestants for truth, whether we recognize ourselves as such or not.

Does the Bible say that today, so long after his resurrection, we can still know Christ as He once was on earth? So, who is your Saviour now, Jesus the Messiah or the Lord of glory and grace from heaven? Has the church been wrong about who Jesus really is for nearly 2,000 years? This book answers these questions and uncovers many other surprises about who scripture reveals the Lord Jesus to really be today.

Truth Triumphant

Truth Triumphant PDF Author: Wilkinson, Benjamin George
Publisher: Delmarva Publications, Inc.
ISBN:
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 674

Book Description
A much neglected field of study has been opened by the research of the author into the history of the Christian church from its apostolic origins to the close of the eighteenth century. Taking as his thesis the prominence given to the Church in the Wilderness in Bible prophecy, and the fact that “‘the Church in the Wilderness,’ and not the proud hierarchy enthroned in the world’s great capital, was the true church of Christ,” he has spent years developing this subject. In its present form, Truth Triumphant represents much arduous research in the libraries of Europe as well as in America. Excellent ancient sources are most difficult to obtain, but the author has been successful in gaining access to many of them. To crystallize the subject matter and make the historical facts live in modem times, the author also made extensive travels throughout Europe and Asia. The doctrines of the primitive Christian church spread to Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. As grains of a mustard seed they lodged in the hearts of many Godly souls in southern France and northern Italy — people known as the Albigenses and the Waldenses. The faith of Jesus was valiantly upheld by the Church of the East. This term, as used by the author, not only includes the Syrian and Assyrian Churches, but is also the term applied to the development of apostolic Christianity throughout the lands of the East. The spirit of Christ, burning in the hearts of loyal men who would not compromise with paganism, sent them forth as missionaries to lands afar. Patrick, Columbanus, Marcos, and a host of others were missionaries to distant lands. They braved the ignorance of the barbarian, the intolerance of the apostate church leaders, and the persecution of the state in order that they might win souls to God. To unfold the dangers that were ever present in the conflict of the true church against error, to reveal the sinister working of evil and the divine strength by which men of God made truth triumphant, to challenge the Remnant Church today in its final controversy against the powers of evil, and to show the holy, unchanging message of the Bible as it has been preserved for t hose who will “fear God, and keep His commandments” — these are the sincere aims of the author as he presents this book to those who know the truth. MERLIN L. NEFF.

Book Description
Seventh-day Adventist editors from all parts of the world met in Washington, D.C., in August, 1939, to participate in a general editorial council, the first to be held. As a source of inspiration and guidance to this group, the leaders of the denomination arranged to have placed in their hands the E.G. White instruction which had been directed to our writers and editors through the years, drawn from both published sources and manuscripts, in the form of a little paper-bound work entitled Counsels to Editors. Five hundred copies of this little work were printed, and the stock was soon exhausted. It seems appropriate to make this volume of counsels generally available through a new edition, which is now issued as a permanent publication. - The Object of Our Publications.
