Costs have been increased, it is true, but so have prices. The latter have not been put up inordinately, but they have been put up to an extent sufficient to cover the advances the manufacturers have had to make to their workmen as well as those they have been forced to give to their sources of supply. Had the year been one of uninterrupted activity, it would unquestionably have been the most successful the trade has ever seen, but unfortunate freight shipments have been held up and lack of supplies has prevented continuous operation. The fuel situation in particular has militated against steady runs. In this connection it may be remarked that the fuel problem is the most serious that confronts the glass manufacturer at the present time.
