Book Description
This study aimed at identifying the role of ICT (information and communication technology) in school administration and the extent of its application by secondary school principals in administration. To guide this study, two research questions were answered and two null hypotheses were tested. The design of the study was a descriptive survey design. The population comprised all the 30 schools in the south eastern states, comprising Abia, Anambra, Ebonvi, Enugu, and Imo states with ICT and Internet facilities. There was no sampling since all the 30 principals from the five states were used for the study. A 26-item questionnaire was constructed and used for data collection. Means and "t"--Test statistic were used for data analysis. The findings showed among others that the use of ICT in school administration is a necessity and worthwhile venture especially in this era of globalization, but the extent of their application in secondary schools is very slow as school administrators are incompetent in handling ICT facilities for effective administration of schools. (Contains 4 tables.).

Critical Perspectives of Educational Technology in Africa

Critical Perspectives of Educational Technology in Africa PDF Author: Bellarmine A. Ezumah
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030537285
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 193

Book Description
This book is a critical-cultural evaluation of educational technology adoption in Sub-Saharan Africa, including projects such as the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child). It presents efficient ways of improving education delivery among low-income communities through designing and implementing congruent educational technologies that incorporate social and cultural proclivities. Ezumah defines technology with regards to pedagogy, and seeks to debunk the assumption that educational technology consists only of digital and interactive options. Additionally, she argues for a narrative paradigm shift aimed at validating analog technologies as equally capable of providing necessary and desired educational objectives and outcomes for communities who cannot afford the digital alternatives. By comparing African educational systems in precolonial, colonial, and post-colonial times and incorporating the history of technology transfers from the Global North to South, the book highlights cultural imperialism, development theory, neocolonialism, and hegemonic tendencies.

Book Description
This research examines information communication technology (ICT) integration into school administration: A case study of secondary schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The research uses a cross-sectional design. Purposeful sampling was used to select 62 of 141 administrators in Ekiti South Senatorial District public secondary schools of Ekiti State, Nigeria. The instrument used to collect data for the study was a questionnaire while the data were prepared and analyzed using a statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS 22.0) for frequency counts and percentages. It was found that ICT resources were not adequately provided to the school administrators, and that the low usage of computers for their jobs was a result of lack of training in the use of computer and other ICT resources. It is concluded that the administrators of the studied schools in Ekiti South Senatorial District of Ekiti State, Nigeria have not really integrated ICT into their administrative jobs. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education, through the State government, should work with the federal government and policy makers to ensure that ICT resources are supplied to the school administrators. Finally, administrators will need to take part in more ICT training, workshops, and seminars to improve their comfort with ICT resources.

Book Description
Master's Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject Pedagogy - Media Pedagogy, , language: English, abstract: The purpose of this study is to ascertain the impact of information and communication technologies (ICT) integration on students’ academic performance in Nigerian Secondary Schools. As a guide to the study, answers will be sought to the following questions: What is the level of availability and usage of ICT facilities in secondary schools in Lagos State? What is attitude of respondents towards ICT application effect on academic performance? What is the relationship between the usage of ICT and academic performance? What are the constraints to the effective usage of ICT? Change is expected in the pattern of teaching and learning process from the conventional method to a more dynamic and flexible one, presumed learner-centered. The learner-centred approach empowers students; they are in control of their activities, materials and pace of learning, which places them in the centre of the learning process and enhances independent learning. However, despite the glaring relevance of ICT in education, coupled with the huge capital investment of both Federal and State governments through ICT driven project known as “schoolNET” and donations from Non-Governmental Organizations to Secondary schools in Nigeria, some teachers are still reluctant, ineffective and unproductive in using ICT facilities to improve students’ academic performance, especially in Business subjects. Information and communication technologies (ICTs) have become inseparable entities in all aspects of human life. The use of ICT has fundamentally changed the practices and procedures of nearly all forms of endeavour within business, governance and civil service. In education, ICT has begun to have a presence but the impact has not been as extensive as in other fields of endeavour. The moving of the world to digital media and information has made the role of ICT in education to become more important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st century. Information and communication technology (ICT) is an indispensable part of the contemporary world. In fact, culture and society have to be adjusted to meet the challenges of the knowledge age. Undoubtedly ICT has impacted on the quality and quantity of teaching, learning and research in tertiary educational institutions in Nigeria.

The study was prompted by the realization that management in many secondary schools in Uganda was characterized by inefficiency in the areas of financial management, examination management and dissemination of information in schools which had resulted into declining academic standards yet schools had ICT facilities that could enhance effective management. The study was carried out in selected secondary schools in Central Uganda. I used a cross sectional survey design in this study and I collected data using semi-structured survey questionnaires, interviews and observation. I logically analyzed Qualitative data as the study progressed and I used a Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and excel to analyze quantitative data. Purposive sampling technique was used and tables were used to determine the sample sizes. Upon the role of ICT on management of financial issues, I discovered that most of the schools were applying ICT facilities in management of financial issues; however some of the administrators lacked enough computer skill to effectively use ICT in the financial management of the school. The mostly used ICT facilities included electronic databases, internet, and computer applications such as Excel, Word and Access for managing teacher's pay rolls, allowances, salaries, school fees payment verification and procurement
