Book Description
The economy is in shambles. Riots and demonstrations in the streets have become daily occurrences worldwide. The unemployment rate is staggering, global debt is out of control, and the world is paralyzed in the grip of terror. What in the world is going on? What if all of this could be happening just for your benefit as a Christian believer? What if we are experiencing a great global orchestration of God's ability, plan and purpose to transfer the immense wealth of the world into the hands of those who serve Him? And what if this prosperity phenomenon forecasted in Scripture has already begun? Dr. Don G. Pickney's ministry is dedicated to proving that on the fateful day of September 11, 2001, the Lord of hosts began to unfold a biblical prophetic event revealed in Scripture as the Day of Jehovah Tsaba, during which He would plunder the nations of their "created glory"--their wealth, goods, substance, means, men and other resources--converting it into the hands of the righteous, a happening already being widely forecasted in charismatic Christianity. Insightful and thought provoking, A Prosperity Phenomenon will offer you a renewed sense of hope in the midst of global turmoil. This God-given message of purpose and prosperity will encourage you to face uncertain times in a different light, reminding you that God is in control and faithful to those who love Him.

Revelation, Mystical Phenomena and Divine Promises

Revelation, Mystical Phenomena and Divine Promises PDF Author: Deacon Albert Graham
Publisher: Trafford Publishing
ISBN: 1698712693
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 754

Book Description
The reader will be appraised of how God has been speaking to His people through public and private revelation for over 2000 years. A special chapter in this work deals with some saints and holy people who have had private revelations about or visits from souls in purgatory, hell or heaven. Another chapter and several of the appendixes are devoted to Marian Apparitions to include those that are approved, not approved and those appending a decision by the Church. By far one of the greatest strengths of this undertaking is the identification of some 43 categories of concomitant extraordinary phenomena and some of the saints and holy people who have experienced them. Color paintings by artists are depicted of some saints experiencing such mystical phenomena. Another unique feature of the book is a listing of some 600 individuals from the 13th to the 21st centuries who bore the stigmata. By knowing that God is present and alive to His people this book may help bring others to a deeper faith in God.

Process, Action, and Experience

Process, Action, and Experience PDF Author: Rowland Stout
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0191083879
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 239

Book Description
There has been a philosophical upheaval recently in our understanding of the metaphysics of the mind. The philosophy of mind and action has traditionally treated its subject matter as consisting of states and events, and completely ignored the category of ongoing process. So the mental things that happen - experiences and actions - have been taken to be completed events and not ongoing processes. But events by their very nature as completed wholes are never present to the agent or subject; only ongoing processes can be present to a subject in the way required for conscious experience and practical self-knowledge. This suggests that a proper understanding of processes is required to understand subjective experience and agency. This volume explores the possibility and advantages of taking processes to be the subject matter of the philosophy of mind and action. The central defining feature of the process argument is its use of the progressive (as opposed to perfective) aspect. But beyond this, philosophers working on the metaphysics of processes do not agree. The contributors to this volume take up this argument in the metaphysics of processes. Are processes continuants? Are they particulars at all, or should we rather be thinking of process activity as a kind of stuff? Process, Action, and Experience considers whether practical reasoning and practical self-knowledge require thinking of action in process terms, and it considers arguments for the processive nature of conscious experience.

Between Speech and Revelation

Between Speech and Revelation PDF Author: Joshua Ryan Kira
Publisher: Wipf and Stock Publishers
ISBN: 1532649347
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 237

Book Description
Evangelicalism, in spite of its size and relationship to various historic movements in Christian history, has never been known to be a perspective that interacts widely in its theological development. Its insular nature, emphasis on inspiration, and its highly doctrinal concerns have caused it to, frequently, be an outlier in larger dialogues concerning Scripture. This book attempts to remedy this lack of interaction by bringing an evangelical view of the Bible into contact with various twentieth-century traditions that have attempted to delve into the relationship between divine speech and revelation. Specifically, the works of Calvinist philosopher Nicholas Wolterstorff, hermeneutical theologian Eberhard Jüngel, and Anglican philosopher-theologian Austin Farrer, will be mined for the resources necessary to affirm and defend a belief in an evangelical view of Scripture. This would include the belief that the Bible can rightly be called “God’s word,” the adherence to verbal plenary inspiration, and a reluctance to use higher criticism in analyzing Scripture. Through criticism and appropriation, this work will set the guidelines for the construction of a more comprehensive perspective of revelation, divine speech, and the Bible, as well as showing how Evangelicalism can contribute to the larger ecumenical dialogue concerning theological methodology.

Supernatural Religion (Discovering the Reality of Divine Revelation)

Book Description
This study is the result of many years of earnest and serious investigation, undertaken in the first instance for the regulation of personal belief of the author. His main object has been conscientiously and fully to state the facts of the case, to make no assertions the grounds for which are not clearly given, and as far as possible to place before the reader the materials from which a judgment may be intelligently formed regarding the important subject discussed. Fear of the results of investigation, in author's opinion, should deter no man, for the issue in any case is gain: emancipation from delusion, or increase of assurance. That which is true in Religion cannot be shaken; that which is false no one can desire to preserve. Ekphrasis, Vision, and Persuasion in the Book of Revelation

Ekphrasis, Vision, and Persuasion in the Book of Revelation PDF Author: Robyn J. Whitaker
Publisher: Mohr Siebeck
ISBN: 9783161539787
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 308

Book Description
Robyn. J. Whitaker interprets the Book of Revelation within the context of ancient rhetoric and religion. She argues that the author of Revelation uses a popular rhetorical tool, ekphrasis, to paint word-pictures of God that compete with material images to both critique image-making and simultaneously make an absent God present.

Shifting Concepts

Shifting Concepts PDF Author: Teresa Marques
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0192524968
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 409

Book Description
Concepts stand at the centre of human cognition. We use concepts in categorizing objects and events in the world, in reasoning and action, and in social interaction. It is therefore not surprising that the study of concepts constitutes a central area of research in philosophy and psychology, yet only recently have the two disciplines developed greater interaction. Recent experiments in psychology that test the role of concepts in categorizing and reasoning have found a great deal of variation, across individuals and cultures, in categorization behaviour. Meanwhile, philosophers of language and mind have investigated the semantic properties of concepts, and how concepts are related to linguistic meaning and linguistic communication. A key motivation behind this was the idea that concepts must be shared across individuals and cultures. With the dawn of experimental philosophy, the proposal that the experimental data from psychology lacks relevance to semantics is increasingly difficult to defend. This volume brings together leading psychologists and philosophers to advance the interdisciplinary debate on the role of concepts in categorizing and reasoning, the relationship between concepts and linguistic meaning and communication, the challenges conceptual variation poses to communication, and the social and political effects of conceptual change.

The Phenomenology of Revelation in Heidegger, Marion, and Ricoeur

The Phenomenology of Revelation in Heidegger, Marion, and Ricoeur PDF Author: Adam J. Graves
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
ISBN: 1793640580
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 257

Book Description
The Phenomenology of Revelation in Heidegger, Marion, and Ricoeur provides a critical framework for understanding the phenomenology of revelation through a series of close readings that serve as the basis for an imagined dialogue between Martin Heidegger, Jean-Luc Marion, and Paul Ricoeur. Adam J. Graves distinguishes between two dominant approaches to revelation: a “radical” approach that seeks to disclose a pre-linguistic experience of revelation through a radicalization of the phenomenological reduction, and a “hermeneutical” one that characterizes revelation as an eruption of meaning arising from our encounter with concrete symbols, narratives, and texts. According to Graves, the radical approach is often driven by a misplaced concern for maintaining philosophical rigor and for avoiding theological biases, or “contaminations.” This preoccupation leads to a process of “counter-contamination” in which the concept of revelation is ultimately estranged from the phenomenon’s rich historical and linguistic content. While Ricoeur’s hermeneutic phenomenology may do a better job of accommodating the concrete content of revelation, it does so at the price of having to renouncing the kind of “presuppositionlessness” generally associated with phenomenological method. Ultimately, Graves argues that a more nuanced appreciation of the complex nature of our linguistic inheritance enables us to reconceive the relationship between revelation and philosophical thought.
